Hi Hubbers

Im going to be doing a 4 day stage race and would like some tips on how best to recover.

Any products, supplements or exercises to do/use afterwards that you've found aid in recovery.

strech a lot, and a thing that worked for me on the epic is a good rub of deap heat and strech before you go to bed, get up and rub again and stretch to get your muscles warm for the days ride.

also if you have acses to to a cold pool or some thing get in the water as you get of the bike or within a few min, that wil help too, a good recovery drink wil work aswel, some thing like muscle armor from eas or recovery max from usn.

linnega (and the new ride) has a very valid point. on any multi-day long distance event i've ever done i've always had milkshakes at our stops and choccie superMs pretty often as well. i also always have a Muscle Fuel shake as soon as posible after getting off the bike.

Drink milk

someone read the new rideWink

Got my Ride mag yesterday - see there is an article on the white stuff.  We drank plenty milk at Sani2C (thanks Clover).  Can't really tell if it helped me as I didn't ride very hard (thanks to broken bike and a few nasty abrasions).  Recovery after day 1 was very good though.

1. Get a recovery drink or protein drink in your stomach within half an hour of finishing. I prefer to use a recovery drink with elecrolytes (spelling?) and then have a small protein drink when i go to bed as that is when it is absorbed best (while you sleep)

2. Stretch after you finish, and before you go to bed

3. Use a pair of those Rocket's recovery pants - they work!

4. Stay out of the sun

5. Get off your feet, maybe put them up for a bit in the afternoon

5. Drink small amounts of water all the time - DO NOT down a litre bottle and then think you good for the day.

6. Go get a product from Dischem called 'Recoup'. It's great and easy to take (pill). It also helps with muscle repair.

7. NB - If you are going to have massages during the race, have some now to get your legs used to it. It's really stupid when ppl think they can just go for a rub. Much like the training, your legs need to be used to it, otherwise they may react badly and feel like rock the next day. Worst case, you can damage your muscles if the person doing the rub is on a mission to give you a hard rub - anyone can give a hard rub, but you need an effective one!
