New 160mm Trail Bike? Hmm What to get

Sorry for the highjack of the thread Nigel, but I am starting to itch for something new as well.

Any thoughts regarding the Rocky Mountain Altitude Rally Edition? Been reading about the noise and frequent servicing of the bushes, but also have some good ride reviews.

Thanks

I don't like the sound of the bushings either - what's wrong with bearings except that they weigh about 10g more each?

As a general comment:

People are generally going to punt the bike they have - naturally so, probably every bike that's appeared in this thread is going to be a fantastic bike, especially once you've dialled it in to suit your requirements and preferences. Also it's better for one's psychological well-being as the alternative is bound to lead to some serious buyer's remorse. Some people take it to the next level and become dedicated fanboys.

The difficulty here is we don't have quite the same choice as elsewhere (e.g. the US), and more importantly it's pretty damn hard to get a demo for just about any bike here. Sure you can get a demo scott spark or giant xtc but a demo Intense Trace T275 or Pivot Mach 6? You're doing well if you can get one at all.

And even if you do get a demo, unless you compare them back to back, or at least on a home trail it's pretty hard to get a good idea. And if it's not set up right it's probably going to underperform anyway.

It seems like it's easier to get more first hand information in the US and places alike, as indicated in this thread.

But the agonising that goes into it seems to be exactly the same!

Nah, not doing it for me. Still think Tracer T275 or new Nomad is the way to go.

Initially, it was a personal toss-up between the T275 and the DV Troy but not sure where the Troy stands now in the grand scheme of all things DV, following the release of this little monster.

Hehe. Jeepers the range of choice in the AM market is just astounding. Luckily I'm not looking to change my steed..... yet.....

I agree with the T275....damn!

I mentioned last night to a friend "I need that bike" (From what I can see, there is a lot of improvements from the previous 275)

Although...next week I will be test riding a Capra, I am intersted to know how it feels.

Haha! Of course I want it, but do I need it and can I afford it are the more important questions to answer. :DSadly my Zula is reaching retirement soon, so need to make a plan there first, before moving on to the AM wing of my garage.

Ja, Capra looking good and had great reviews so far, but is it... intense... enough? Nah.

Although I'd probably wait for them to release a 650b version.

If I could I would buy one of these in a heartbeat. Best bike I've ever ridden.

Narrow it down to your top 5 and then read all the reviews on those. Then, it will become clear which one your heart wants. Then change your mind completely and get something totally different :D.
