3X 10 compatibility to 2x10

I am selling my Spec Epic ally 2x10 and picking up a Trek Super fly carbon.

They both have Sram XO, however the Trek has a 3 ring front chain ring, and the shifters are in better condition.

Can I simply convert the Treks 3 ring to 2 ring by removing a ring and setting the front shifter limit?

Should work but bear in mind it is still in essense a 3 ring crank meaing that there is still some cross shifting - second and large ring further away from bottom bracket than would have been the case if you went for a proper dual chainring

One point, my current crank has 2 rings and then a bash protector, would this bash protector be in place of the third ring possibly?
