I read that they presented the best young rider jersey on the podium to the 2nd placed rider and not to Louis, even though he won it !!!

He has a famous South African cycling name:

Lourens Meintjies was South Africa's first world champion in any sport.

In 1893, three years before the first modern Olympic Games in Athens, Meintjies won the 50-mile cycle race in a world-record time at the first world championship event in Chicago. He never made it to the Olympics, SA missed the first couple and only participated from 1904.
