Supe Rave - Northcliff Cycles

Wow, pretty impressed. I took my bike in to Northcliff Cycles this past Sunday for a little once over pre-Magalies Monster. Alex assisted me, and knowing he is the owner I mentioned to him that when my bike came in earlier in the year, the seatpost came out pretty scuffed from the repair stand clamp. Now at the time when this happened, I mentioned it to one of the sale guys in the shop, and he suggested that they "touch up" with some black paint. I must admit, I was a little annoyed, but it was not a big issue. I did not mention it to Alex to try and get a new seatpost out of him, but purely to bring it to his attention, afterall, scratches on a MTB add to its character.

Picked my bike up this afternoon, and Alex had arranged for the seatpost to be replaced "on the house". I insited that it was not really neccessary, but I was told that Alex had told them to replace.

Big Bike Kudos to Alex and Northcliff Cycles......

Exactly the same thing happened to me a few months back when I took my road bike in for a service at Northcliff cycles & Alex replaced the seat post.

Think they should invest in a new bike stand....

They don't need to replace the whole stand just the rubber jaws, weird they'd rather replace customers Seatposts than just maintain their stands?

When they are quoting R 3500 for a set of Deore brakes, I rate they can afford to give away a couple seat posts.

yeah I guess, but they also could have said oh well tough luck. irrespective, well done Alex and Northcliff Cycles

I think this showed what a bad level of customer service we have come to expect now days. Good on them for doing it but really, if they screw it up they should be begging you to let them replace it.

I have never had anything but excellent service from Alex and the crew!

I do think that their service rates are way too low, I actually argued the last weekend with them as they did not want to charge me for a wash and lube.

I'm no fan. Miss Small fry went there for a new presta valve which they charged R150 for. Day light robbery much...

The sad thing is that customer service in many places has taken a dive. In general it appears that people don't take pride in what they do.

SHOP MAKES MISTAKE - THEN FIXES IT. CUSTOMER OVER THE MOON!

Wow. Really? How is this a rave? They screwed up and fixed it.

Rather easily AfdElite - we all read the RANTS that people are very quick to come out guns blazing about, where they are just having no joy with said LBS as they wont replace a part, or exchanged a part or whatever.

This is definately a RAVE to me, maybe not you, but definately for me - its not so much about them replacing the seatpost as much as in the way it was handled.

my point exactly, we always hear about the bull s h ! t bad service we get and yes in general, customer service in South Africa is pretty appaling. Ja at the time I was a bit annoyed, but it was cosmetic, so let it be - but a wrong was righted and thats why I will alays go back.

agreed, and the customer is partially to blame for putting up with the bad service. It is pretty sad that people dont take pride in what they do these days (not everyone, but too many dont).

I can't speak for the service or the service pricing as I have had no dealings with the shop of that sort. I simply walked in and asked for a price on the Deore breaks and obviously the sales guy though he saw me coming and said R3500, when everywhere else had been around the R1800 mark. But that alone is enough to make sure I won't go back.

They used to have valves that cost R80 but they kept having issues, they now only use DT Swiss valves which are the best quality in my opinion. i saw them at Cycle lab aswell and they we R160 at Cycle Lab.. i have used the DT swiss Valves after using the rubbish chinese ones and have never had problems. awesome bike shop, will never go anywhere else.
