Bucket list of Mtb stage races (local)

Riding on my own is good, as is riding with someone. The whole "only solo guy around" idea after the race when everybody is hanging out with mates worries me though.

As far as skills and ability go, what are the pro's/ cons to having a partner with the same skills/ speed etc, so you don't keep each other back, vs someone with complimentary skills, each one strong where the other is weak, so you can 'pull' or help each other? The second one seems more beneficial (but also way more opportunity for frustration)

Have done multiple stage races with different partners. Been the stronger and the weaker partner, also been lucky to find a partner very evenly matched (my default choice no doubt). Being the stronger partner is frustrating if you are competitive but this is easily managed. Being the weaker partner is hell. Solution is to respect your partner and ride to the weaker partners ability, bearing in mind we all have good and bad days.

I have 2 that just won't fall into place- J2C (solo) and Tour of Boland (yes, I know it is a road race). Won't be 2015 either.

Why not hit joberg2c 2015????
