Spruit clean up day

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say well done to the cyclists who pitched up to help clean up trash along the length of the Spruit on Saturday. It was a pretty good day with loads of decent people and a nice atmosphere.

There were a few cyclists who rode past and complained about people who had the 'gall' to get in the way whilst cleaning up the trail they use all the time but you'll always get a few like that I suppose.

One interesting observation is that most of the people who have properties bordering the narrow east bank of the Spruit seem quite happy to dump their garden refuse over their fences.

Finds of the day on our section were a bicycle, a TV, a dead parrot and a geo cache.

Thank you for the hard work. Much appreciated.

As a Spruit Rider, clean-up days like these are gold and so valued.

Ya, those refuse bags and tree stumps in the path were no fun!

Good job!

I hope you put the geo cache back where you found it... or you can have a chuckle every time you ride past and notice would-be-treasure-hunters digging holes, climbing trees and ripping at vegetation.

Very impressed to see how many familes were participating in this clean up

Nice to see there are people who still care, even though they didn't make the mess, and it isn't their job to pick it up.

Admittely I went for a ride first, so didn't pick up as much as I should/could have. But glad I did my bit.

I would have felt like a total toffee if I just kept riding past these people picking up litter on a Spruit that I use far more than they do.

Big up to all those that organized it

Here's a photo from the Spruit Fairy of the amount of litter they picked up with the Hurlingham Glenadrianne Craighall community

I wish I had the Spruit Fairy's super powers. He can immerse himself in the water and not miss a day of work. Or build a jump lip with one hand, while fighting off old ladies with the other. A living legend!

As for me... pick up one dried up cactus (that looked like a milk bottle), and I'm still trying to get spines out of my thumb. All I can hope is that the Spruit water turned it radioactive and soon I too will have some super powers.

Such an awesome day and sight, all those people cleaning up and making pretty.

If only we could keep it that way.
