nathrix Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Route launched, apparently the prologue will be going in the opposite direction than last year. It's also 7 days as per bellow: The sixth edition of the Bridge Cape Pioneer Trek international mountain bike stage race, scheduled to take place in South Africa from 12-18 October, 2014, is set to deliver a next-level experience for its 500 entrants, both the podium chasers and those aiming just to complete the event within the cut-off time. The seven-day race, which follows a different route each year, will take participants over 550km through three different eco-regions in South Africa’s Western Cape province – the Great Karoo, the Klein Karoo and the Garden Route. This year’s edition will be the first as a UCI-graded event, which…http://www.capepioneer.co.za/ http://www.capepioneer.co.za/images/theroute/BCPT_Race_Profile_2014_sml.jpg From the arid desert landscapes of the Groot Karoo to the great mountains of the Klein Karoo and the aboriginal forests of the Garden Route, the Cape Pioneer offers a look into the pioneering souls of our forebears. Those who went before etched their tracks deep into the soil – tracks that fell into disuse and disappeared from sight for centuries, to be called into life again by the unquiet minds of the Dryland route design team. The 2014 Cape Pioneer features sections that were last seen by our ancestors, new twists and turns that reveal the trailblazing spirit of the land. Rediscover it with us in October. nathrix Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 From their newsletter a nice summery for those who are interested: PIONEERING SPIRIT EVIDENT IN NEW ROUTE 2013 marks the year in which the Bridge Cape Pioneer Trek came of age. Backed by a committed sponsor and inspired by an unforgettable route, a record field gathered for the 5th edition of this race, their every need seen to by our passionate community partners. As ever with a Dryland event, it was (and will again be) a tough race, but a race everyone could participate in and a window on our beautiful country with its rich diversity of cultures and landscapes. Who can forget the bone-chilling lure of the mountains, the cool spirit of our forests, the stark desert beauty? Exciting new route design variations for 2014 include major changes to Stages 4 through 6 – we won’t spoil the surprise. From the arid desert landscapes of the Groot Karoo to the great mountains of the Klein Karoo and the aboriginal forests of the Garden Route, the Bridge Cape Pioneer offers a look into the pioneering souls of our forebears. Those who went before etched their tracks deep into the soil – tracks that fell into disuse and disappeared from sight for centuries, to be called into life again by the unquiet minds of the Dryland route design team. The 2014 Bridge Cape Pioneer features sections that were last seen by our ancestors, new twists and turns that reveal the trailblazing spirit of the land. The prologue has undergone a major change, a complete turn-around and stage 6 now is a true celebration, befitting a final day also with a new start venue. Two stage locations have changed around with riders now travelling from De Rust to George in 1-day, truly an epic journey! Stage 5 is completely new with a never before seen section through the Klein Langkloof, through the historic farms of Ezeljacht and Schoonberg. Although the stage locations from stages 1-3 remain the same, the actual routes in between towns have changed considerably, staying true to our pioneering spirit. The queen of stages, the race to the top of the Swartberg mountain, this year boasting an impressive R 250 000 in prize money, still remains the one to win! The route detail can be found on the website and please note that the new route visuals will be aired on Supercycling this coming Tuesday.
