A sad loss to South African cycling, we met Basil in 1975 and he was Mister Cycling then and still was up to the day of his passing. He made us welcome when we first went into his shop , and introduced Alan and I to a constitution he had for Schools cycling and we set to and formed STSCA and it grew country wide from there, indirectly he was responsible for Colin becoming a World Champion .

He was a great man as a friend and as an employer as we both spent time behind the counter at Deale and Huth .

We were always pleased to receive regular correspondence ,over the years from Basil ,keeping us up to date on his family and the progress of Cycling in South Africa . In the nearly thirty years we have been back in the UK , Basil never forgot us

Our sincere condolences to his family, Adele, Helen and Jack and other family members.

We want to thank everyone for their kind and thoughtful comments about our husband and father, which are a source of great comfort to us. Some of these comments have stirred up fond memories that we have about the time that we spent at Deale and Huth, Hector Norris Park and many other venues.

Basil was at his happiest when having fun with cyclists and bikes, so it is not surprising that people have such pleasant recollections of their encounters with him. He remained passionate about cycling right to the end.

The funeral took place at West Park Cemetery on Wednesday - the same day that he passed away - in keeping with the Jewish tradition to minimize the delay before burial.

With thanks,
