Is it possible to convert an XTR 3x10 crank to a 2x10 ?

Or not worth the cost of new chainrings etc. and better to buy 2x10 ?

You don't say which XTR - if it's got a removable spider, your best option would be to replace spider and rings - the chainline on 2x and 3x are different. Otherwise replace the entire crankset or just the rings, up to you and depends on budget and how OCD you are.

Not sure what your reasons are, but I have a 3x10 XT crank, and the one upgrade I was planning was to change to a 2x10 because it was what everyone else had that I was racing against, and it was "heavier". I didn't have the funds, so while I saved, I did a few races with the 3x10, Hmmmmm. Turns out, (Day 3 of W2W springs to mind), that 42T front blade can come in real handy at times, where I was comfortably leaving the 2x10-ers in the dust. For the majority of the races I do here in GP, I'm quite happy now to carry the extra 500g(?) of a 3x10.

You can buy 38t and 26t to match the 2x10 ratios for your 3x10 crank. You can alod buy caps that cover the screws so it looks pretty.

PM me if you need them...

The reason is my hard tail has 2x10. Looking at a dual but has XTR 3x10. Would prefer same ratios. Not sure which XTR it is. Last year model bike.
