Sabie is tougher, with longer and steeper climbs including the Mamba. Downhills are also generally rougher as well including the Rocky Horror.

Plus it gets warm in Sabie.... Did the ultra a couple years ago and it was like 44 degrees

Anyone know how the magoebas race is compared to the one in Sabie next year Feb (National MTB Series)?Wanna do that one as well.

franco2014 - I think you did the 40km at Magoebas, I have done both Sabie 45km and Magoebas 40km (althought not Magoebas this year :( ) and Sabie is tougher. Its been a little easier since they took the Jantjiesbos climb out of the half marathon but its still plenty climbing.

As Thug said Sabie in Feb is hot, muddy, damp and humid, especially in the forests on the steep climbs - but having said that we do it every year, a great race - also one we try not miss.

Usual excellent Advendurance organisation and a great atomsphere at the York Timbers Sports Grounds - probably the most MTB riders you will see at a single event.

What a great race and perfect weather.

I thought I was fitter than last year and my time says I did finish quicker but by my calculations we did around 600m of climbing less although the routes were extremely similiar.

Great meeting everyone and well done TznDotMtb on your 2nd place!

Thanks. I took 40minutes off my time from last year and was chuffed.

My hubby and another unknown rider took a wrong turn and then met up with the front riders a few 100metres later. They stuck with the front riders though to the end and he ended 3rd. Immediately went to DQ himself (and by doing that will loose his Limpopo colors) as he didnt do the correct route although only not even a km less than the rest. The other guy that also took the wrong turn took his place on the podium which wasn't so cool. I also later heard that alot of other riders including girls didn't ride the last technical bit that took a huge chunk out of my time as I was so tired to ride some of those steep singletracks and they finished on the 20km route. Should I feel a bit cheated or just let it go? If you have ridden the 80km you will understand a bit of my frustration because its really tough and hard work.

Then we went for a recovery ride on Sunday but ended up in doing the same amount of climbing in 55km as Saturdays race. Probably stupid and still trying to recover from that. Saw a couple at Pekoe view with a Trek bike on his car which I'm pretty sure was the guy with the matching orange shoes?

O yes and regarding the Magoebaskloof challenge in May...I'm the organizer. Bigger field than Saturdays race but definitely something to add to your 2015 calender. See you there!

Would love to know how many did not finish the 80k, I was having a beer with the locals and 16:00 there were still 3 riders en route. I see they were not listed as finishers.

My advice to anyone contemplating doing this race you better be fit, as not even the scenery is going to save you. However, if you are fit it is simply awesome.

On a side note anyone know anything about the 40k winner Komo Bere ? He was the only 40k rider to catch me an he was flying and looking at the 15min winning margin he was in a class of his own. Under 17 Nogal!

Kombo is from Louis Trichardt and a real talent! He is definitely the best half marathon rider in Limpopo at the moment. Still working on riding longer distances. Not long then he will definitely feature in marathon racing and Alan Gordon, 80km winner and Tzaneen boytjie will have to be looking out for him.

Hi there. Yes it was me with the Trek and matching shoes. Saw you guys up at Pekoe. What an awesome area to ride.

No Kranswurm. Our race route is from Merensky in the lower Magoebaskloof area and the 70km pass just below the Woodbush towers back down behind Debegeni falls. Its over the long first weekend in May. We usually have the Magoebaskloof road challenge on the Sunday but have decided not to proceed with the road race anymore as the time effort and money spend is just not worth 100 riders and the roads have become too dangerous.

yes the race up Wolkberg was part of The Dirt Series. Tough tough tough! I was the only crazy chick to take part.

Our main sponsor have suggested a stage race in 2016. How about that???

Talking about safety is the any feedback on how the rider who went straight on the corner into the small rivine doing - was he badly hurt?

Also would like to know.......the story at the race was definite broken arm, maybe fractured pelvis (or hip), and some ribs........

Healing vibes to rider.

I got to the top of that short climb and saw the blue arrow pointing left and the red arrow pointing right and then going onto the singletrack. I was poked by that stage but remembered the singletrack from last year and definitely wouldn't have swopped it for the dirt road with the blue arrow.

You at least know that you did the full route and no shortcut. Others who took the shortcut will have to live with themselves.

Maybe in the future the organisers should have a marshall on the dirt road at the end of the singletrack and write down the race numbers of those who didn't ride the singletrack.

For the guys that cut out the last single track - you just cheat yourself!!!
