If you're going the IDT route then get yourself a spare rear wheel so that ou do not wear down your training tyre making you more susceptible to punctures.

Spinning bikes are okay if they are set up correctly.

Rollers are best - having to maintain a still upperbody will improve your climbing.  The rolling resistance makes HR interval training easier.

Newbie 234, I have to agree with cyclenut. I think an IDT is the better option to a spinning bike but you will need a spare wheel with a proper IDT tyre on. It just makes life so much easier and cheaper in the long run.

I've never used rollers myself but have heard they are also really good as you will work your core muscles a lot more.

Why dont you just join a Virgin Active club, you can spin or ride a stationary bike, or run on the treadmill, or swim,or......................!!

I get bored after 10 minutes riding at home, whereas at the gym you are amongst people, theres an atmosphere and you dont need to maintain anything or change tyres.

.............plus of course the pretty woman make it a lot more interesting than staring at that print of your grandmother on the wall for 40 minutes.

Rollers all the way - although I also have an IDT which I use from time to time, but boredom is my biggest enemy, 1 hour on either and I am ready to get a bottle of Gin and some razor blades out as suicide is the next best option to put me out of my brain dead misery.

He came off the side of the rollers and proceeded to hit the coffee table/wall unit at +-40 KPH ......... not forgetting the nice burn stripe left on the carpet and a toasted bike!!
