To the clever Hubbers out there.

During the Trans Baviaans, both my thumbs and my big toes started to grow numb and it got worse as we progressed. Its now a little more than a week and I still have the tingling sensation and very sensitive wrists.

I am used to three hour plus rides and sensations like these are new to me.

Does anyone have a clue to what the possible reason for this sudden symptoms?

Thanks

Its the vibration. Do not try and ride through it. Lift your hands in the air and shake them from time to time. I can imagine ignoring it causing longer term damage. Experiment with different bar grips and gloves. You put a lot of pressure on the lower thumb

Had the problem on my road bike a few years back. Would sit in a funny way with my hands. Something to do with the bloodflow. Had to get myself to use different positions of the hand every now and then.

Habit stuck. Even now on the MTB I will try to change my hands position. Helps a lot if the morning temp does what it did this morning...

you need to strengthen your core so that you aren't relying on your arms to take all the load...

Pilates and kickboxing worked for me.

i used to have bar ends on my handlebars that I could shift the way I held on, and that helped stop pins and needles in my hands, might be worth a try for you.

I have the same issue on both hands. All my fingers except for the two little fingers have gone numb since the Transbaviaans.

I have done a lot of reading on this issue over the past week and while I now understand the cause and what to do in future to prevent it does anybody have an idea how long it will take for my hands to go back to normal? I desperately want to get back on the bike but not sure if it will cause more damage than good?

Do I need to go and see a doctor, are there specific medication I can take? Any help would be appreciated.
