Riding to Modders

Hi All

 

Any one ridden from bryanston , sandton areas to Modders ?

 

What route do i take ??,

 

Google maps shows you can possibly get through at Marlboro ext

 

Any track from sunnighill or through back of buccleuch ?

Have ridden to longmeadow to one of our sites prior to modders opening.

Live in Honeydew, so went through sandton, marlboro drive, over the highway and then through linbro AH. left on london road where UTI is and bob's married to your aunt.

 

if you are on marlboro, keep to the sidewalk - be wary of pedestrians.

Its not a route that is regulalry cycled, so be extra vigilant with motorists, indicate intention clearly. The stretch on the bridge over the N3 is nerve wrecking.

 

going back up marlboro is also pretty crap, it's long daunting and the foot traffic had me nervous with every passing as i had being bike jacked in the back of my mind constantly.

 

The alternative to marlboro is to go through Lyndhurst. you can then hit a right to eventually meet up with corlett drive.

 

I did it to get training done even tho i had to work, but it certainly was not enjoyable.

 

Rather drive, and do two laps...

Our regular route out to Bapsfontein and back is:

12th Ave Rivonia, left Bowling either around the golf course through Khyber Rock or right into Witkoppen, right Woodmead Drive past Makro, over M1, right Eastern Service road, 1st left North Way all way through Kelvin until Marlboro Drive, left over N3 into Linbro Park. Right into 3rd Rd, 1st left 2nd Ave. Follow all way until you see detour signs and then follow them coming out on to Peace Street (turning right here will take you back over the N3 into Alex). Turn left and then follow until you see sign to turn left into Thornhill Estate.

We have never had any issues but this is SA!

Hi I've been also looking at that route. I think its possible to ride to woodmead and then cut over to the old 94.7 mtb route and follow that all the way thought to modderfontien. Ive looked at the route and there is a clearly defined trail there. I'm just not sure if anybody rides it or not. I would be keen on trying it out.

I come from the opposite direction and we cycle to rosebank(road)/emmerentia(mtb on the spruit to Sandton) and back very often traffic is not hectic in the mornings.

I would not ride through the veld on thenold 947 mtb route. Vast open space, secluded, you are asking to get your equipment removed from your person
