Try Outdoor Escape (situated in the small shopping centre at the bottom of the Hellshoogte road in Stellies). I'm sure they can arrange a demo bike. Speak to Quintin. Best would be to ride both a tallboy and bronson and then decide. My choice was a bronson...amazing machine. Good luck with the search.

What sort of riding do you anticipate?

The Tallboy also comes in long travel (LT) version with 140mm front and 135mm rear travel. This is a bit more trail oriented than the standard Tallboy which is well suited to a mix of XC race and trail riding. The Bronson has 150mm travel on 27.5 wheels and a more trail/enduro type bike. All are great rides. I'd say the Stumpy is closest to the Tallboy in character. If you want to focus on XC racing there are other options to consider.

Domestique,

I hear you load and clear, lets agree on one thing, I don't anticipate winning races but what to have fun, yes there is more travel on the LT but really don't want to have a spongy ride up hill!

Both versions of the Tallboy pedal very efficiently. My LT came with Fox CTD front and rear providing an effective 'soft' lockout when you want it but I find very little need. Riding in trail mode most of the time. The Bronson will likely be a bit less efficient as a XC race bike than either of the Tallboys. If you will race a lot also consider an Epic or a BMC 4 stroke? Both are a bit more bony to ride but very quick and responsive. If racing less often or casually and looking for a great allrounder that is comfy on long rides and good on tough technical terrain then Stumpy, Tallboys, Bronson are good options. Pyga Pascoe maybe?

Domestique,

Thank's for the info! Yes I will lone the epic from the Specialized shop in SSW but just looking at the bikes the Santa Cruz does it for me.But I will ride the Epic to compare, Yes I'm looking for a all rounder that looks the part! But its not always the bike that wins the race it has to be peddled and the peddler has to stay on the bike(LOL). I'll have a look at your suggestions on the Pyga, thank's again!

Lets try this again, ... Posting and it's not posting...

Ok... back to business

Whats your budget

How tall are you.

I had a 26er, moved up to a 650b, loving it, nearly build myself a 29er, and then realised ... WHY ...

I have a friend that was on a 26er, moved up to a Spex Camber Carbon 29er,  got it stolen. back to her 26er and now got herself a VIPA (small) which comes standard with 650b wheels and she's loving it,

Think about adding the Pyga OneTwenty650b or OneTen29er also as possible options (Cliff and Mark is down there in town).
