  1. And a new build begins. An On One Hello Dave. A super long & super slack aggressive steel hardtail. It will be totally murdered out.
  2. The difference could be explained by the fact that you’re measuring power at different places; ie, at the crank arm and the rear cassette. There might be a loss of power between the crank and the rear cassette through friction (BB, chain, chain ring, rear derailleur pulleys etc.) the difference may be the loss in power. similar principle in measuring the power of a car. Power at the flywheel vs. power at the wheels. I created a Zwift 125w 15 min Custom workout to just hold the resistance on 125w and while the trainer is on that I measure the Stages on my Garmin and there is around a 30-61w higher jumping between 160w and 186w Both have been calibrated many times with the results staying the same.
  3. Couldn’t agree more. Choose the one that fits best. I’d go as far as saying don’t buy if you’ve not tried it on. Edit: typo
  4. The fundamental difference between the two is that the Turbo Levo Comp has a 700wh battery vs. a 500wh battery for the Turbo Levo. The bigger battery is definitely the way to go.
  5. You should really get yourself a proper motorbike then as speed seems to be pretty high on your needs list. I also have a Levo and the 32 kph restriction doesn’t in any way interfere with my riding. I never climb anywhere close to 32 kph and I’m on par with normal bikes when descending trails. I just get more runs in on any given ride. I also hope that you are considerate enough not to frighten or startle other cyclists should you pass them at such high speed differentials.
  6. Nice bike - congrats. I would not ride a bike with such a short steerer. You can also try Robbie’s Bicycle Concept in PE. Good luck in getting it sorted. Pls share the options the pro’s suggest. I’m sure many of us would be interested to know. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U5okPm9Sn8 edit: typo
  7. Just understand the implications of giving away your genetic information and what this information could be used for. Exactly as we gave up our privacy to use the "free" services offered by social media platforms (Facebook, twitter etc), so we give up our genetic privacy when submitting swabs containing our DNA. Be aware of what these business might do with your DNA data. Look at the recent Facebook-Cambridge Analytica Scandal in 2018 where personal data was harvested through Facebook without users' consent and was used for targeted political advertising. Imagine what millions of peoples' genetic data could be used for. Even though you pay for the service, you are again the product and your genetic data is priceless. Don't give it away for free. Read up a bit on the controversial side to these genetic testing services. Make an informed decision before proceeding.
  8. I have the same devices (Fenix 6x pro and an Edge 530). I also get an error when I try update the Africa topo map on the edge 530 using my Mac (I've not bothered trying to update the 6x). I had 6 updates available this morning. Screenshot 2019-12-16 at 1.23.23 PM.pdf I successfully updated "other items" by only selecting "install" for the item and not "install all".Screenshot 2019-12-16 at 1.23.42 PM.pdf Trying to install the map - error. Screenshot 2019-12-16 at 1.24.33 PM.pdf I see the following error message in my iCloud sync. Ive followed the instructions to change the settings and still no luck. I still have 9GB available in my iCloud storage. Not sure why an update could fail (if related) because it cant't be backed up to the cloud. Screenshot 2019-12-16 at 1.22.34 PM.pdf ps. I got quite close to installing the update the first time I tried before it failed. Every time I try the update it jumps up to 96.7% complete within a couple of seconds and then fails. I will try and delete Garmin express and start from scratch. I will also go into the Mac and fully delete all Garmin files as some files/folders still hang around after uninstalling the app. Screenshot 2019-12-16 at 1.48.52 PM.pdf Any other suggestion/tips also appreciated. That includes anybody from Garmin SA should they read this thread.
  9. I doubt that we’ll ever come to a universally agreed and accepted understanding of “mint” or “like new”. The reality is that people will continue to use the term subjectively. Sellers want to get the highest price and often (not always) see and describe their item as being in a better condition than what it might be in or what others see it as. Also, from a buyers perspective, people also understand “mint” or “like new” differently too. Some are more discerning while others may be happy to accept blemishes in whatever form. This debate can continue ad infinitum. I think the best approach is to call sellers out by pointing out any discrepancies between the item’s condition and the true condition of the product. After all, as a buyer such a discrepancy between description and true condition can be used to your benefit by negotiating a better price if the quality is still acceptable.
  10. I think the point of paraffin oil in the concoction is to make the wax less brittle once it sets and thus ensuring it thinly coats the metal surfaces of the chain (to prevent rust) and more importantly is retained within the chain rollers. It would seem Martin PJ's suggestion of paraffin oil from Dischem might do the trick. Just don't drink the stuff because it is a laxative! Also found this article which seems to indicate that pharmaceutical paraffin oil might be the right "paraffin oil" https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/paraffin-oil I could be wrong though...Im not a chemical engineer.
  11. Presumably when you mention lamp oil, it’s not normal paraffin? Closest lamp oil I can find is the stuff mixed with citronella to keep the mozzies away. Where have you bought lamp oil?
  12. Off the cuff, the new categories seem good. This includes the ability to filter. I also like the overall design of the new site - clean, fresh, contemporary. One question though (not directly related to the category reshuffle) - where do you reply/comment publicly to a classified advert? The only options I see are "Send message" and "Send email" (Top right corner under the person's details who placed the add).
  13. Also make sure that before you apply any new tape to the rim that you’ve removed all residue from the old tape as well as any old sealant. Make sure the inside of the rim is clean and dry. Ensure there isn’t any water lurking around the inside of the rim if you washed it after you removed the old tape if it’s a double wall rim.

  15. Here you go: https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Disc-Wheel-Cover/ Pretty cost effective and let your inner Picasso go wild in decorating it. Ps. Not a good idea to do this to your front wheel though...
  16. I vowed that I was not going to get caught up in the madness of Black Friday. Settled in to work on my theses last night and then was distracted on the hub. Next thing I know I receive a transaction confirmation SMS from my bank... I bought a Garmin Edge 530. I stumbled on this thread and found that EasyBike offered a decent discount on the unit. In fairness, I was going to buy the 530 regardless. At least I didn’t buy a television like most of SA did...
  17. that and peoples' often inflated yet fragile egos.
  18. Really? A sweeping statement don't you think?
  19. I see your point. However we look at the issue, nothing will change until we each change our approach. To then state the obvious, both the fault and solution lies with each of us.
  20. The thread "Bike Shop Damaged My Frame Issue - Help!" has got me thinking. Are consumers, are we vocal enough in steering the cycling industry in terms of introduced trends/technologies/designs, which then have a potential impact on us at a future point in time? Let's use bottom brackets as an example (for purpose of a principle). I personally choose to only buy bikes that have threaded BB's because for me the potential issues related to press fit BB's outweigh any benefits. My choice of my knock-off Chinarello was heavily influenced by the fact that the manufacturer offered a threaded BB. I settled on my Santa Cruz Bronson by virtue of its threaded BB. I'm looking at replacing the Bronson with either a Megatower or the New 2020 Specialized Enduro, both of which have threaded BB's. Same principle. My point in this thread is not to continue the debate of the bike shop damaged my frame thread, nor debate the merits/demerits of threaded and press fit BB's or any other bike part for that matter. My point is this. As consumers and a cycling community, should we not start making more principled purchase decisions around trends/technology/designs etc. that we perceive to be flawed or inadequate? The industry would hopefully be more responsive and not merely push "new design/technology" into the market to stimulate sales which we as consumers sometimes blindly accept. I acknowledge that there will never be full consensus on any given point nor are some of us technologically well versed. We ultimately steer the industry with where we choose to spend our money. Perhaps a new thread section "New tech - yay or nay?
  21. Why not try and get a loaner 650b wheelset and give them a ride. The best will be whichever you prefer. Others’ opinions are just that. Opinions.
  22. JPX pepper gun. In my opinion a better alternative to a firearm, pepper spray or a telescopic baton. https://peppergun.co.za/products/jpx-protector/
  23. I have the Sennheiser PXC-550 wireless BT headphones. Pretty handy when the office becomes a little noisy and you need to tune out. The things I love about them: - Rich and deep sound. - They also have the ability to accurately reproduce a sound stage. - Battery lasts about 30 hrs. - Lift the right ear cup off your ear and it automatically pauses the music. Music resumes as you place the cup over your ear again. - Tap the right earcup in various combinations to: adjust volume, stop/play, switch noise cancellation on/off, skip forwards/backwards - Foldable and they come with an airplane headphone jack adaptor. - Comfortable - lol, and the best feature for the office... switch the music and noise cancellation off and the headphones transmit the sound around you...and people think you’re listening to music...but you hear everything... Negatives: They are pricey but they are being discounted at the moment as they are a year or two old already.
