Tough but comfy and long enough shorts

I have pretty much trashed my lightweight baggies and I am about to drop some cash on a pair of shorts for AM/dh duties on my Reign. They must be tough and long enough to go with knee pads.  I like the TLD Motos but am prepared to be persuaded otherwise. Please stick to what is available locally ( TLD available at MX Alliance as is Alpinestars for more $)  I like the Motos because they have a ratchet as opposed to popper closure. the other options are Dakine, but the ones available in my size (32-34) are strange colours and only 200d nylon. They do have belt loops which is a bonus in my book...

Opinions please.

i have a pair of dakines, they really nice

if you want a pair of pants that make you feel special, get IONs, they super expensive, but that fabric . the issue with the ions is that they might not come with a chamois, whereas the dakine ones probably do, and they are disgustingly expensive!

have a look around, dont forget to check swindle.co.za

Yea it's awesome looking but is pricey.

Taking into consideration that shreddtech are competitively priced against the likes of Chain Reaction Cycles, you still save yourself 40% on duties and 14% VAT as they are based locally. Awesome service as well...Glad to finally see a brand like Royal readily available in SA.

Craig, I destroy lightweight shorts, My Cape Storm and First Ascent ones are fooked from scouring the ground. i went with Swindle and got these suckers on sale along with a decent liner for R950. Normal Price would have been about R1500. Shorts are thick enough to be durable and protect me and also suitably long with the bare minimum of weak stretchy fabric. Size is a 32 but marked medium and the only size they had left in stock. post-14003-0-95818700-1413280149_thumb.jpg

A Quick Review of my Dakine 8 Track shorts after 15 km of up and down

Awesome they are and they make local offerings look like ****. The material is a slightly stretchy nylon canvas - sounds roff but it isnt its soft and extremely comfy despite its thickness. The shorts have a lining to make them even more comfy. Then there's the length and width - just over the knee when standing means they cover  knee pads and don't leave a gap when pedaling. There is almost no silly stretch fabric at the back - just a band of thickish stuff below the waist band. The waist band is nice and wide and the velcro straps to tighten it are elasticized so even if you pull it up tight, there is still room for your belly and it has belt loops, for those days you want to carry your piece or just keep them up after banting for too long. the double press studs that close teh shorts are proper stiff and don't pop by accident. The front pockets are deeeeeeep - you could carry a shock pump and would not notice it. Then there are 2x zipped back pockets and a secretish zipped pocket out front plus a clever permit pocket  - an elasticized holder that pops back up an upside down pocket on your left leg. For when you go to whistler and have a lift pass that needs showing every so often. 2x zipped leg vents add to the class act.

The fit while riding both saddle up and down was great. No seat grabbing slack out back while descending and I had no issues when in XC mode either

The Italian padded inners I got as an extra did their job well too - would not ride the CPT in them, but perfect for enduroing your bike.

I am sorry i don't have 3 pairs these are so good.
