Cyclist down in Durbanville

How much more do you think drivers are going to hate road cyclists when they start getting fined for not being a meter away, **** I feel sorry for you okes....

At least the real cyclists..........

Your line of reasoning does not smack of respect or care as you imply.

It comes across as insensitive, uncool and, above all else, ignorant.

A man fatally crashed on a bridge on the Hoogekraal trails not too long ago - remember?

Getting into any kind of saddle carry risks. Let us, as cyclists, not exchange as if we are so separate. It is unification that matters in adversity.

Dale, not sure what your argument is regarding the man crashing on the bridge, he actually didn't die at the bridge (please elaborate further)

I believe he died as a result of crashing while MTBing, udxcob.

And the trackie that passed on a few months ago.

And I'm responding to what is apparently a MTBer in earlier posts that is suggesting how roadies should ride on the road.

And the tone of his/her posts smacks of disrespect and poor advice.

Hence, my suggestion of cyclists supporting each other as all forms of cycling carry risk. ????????????

Hope that's clearer????

More importantly, it is a massive week ???? for the family that lost a husband and father.

Ride In Peace, fallen rider.

Any idea how Johan's riding partner is doing?  From what I understand he was also caught in the collision?

Hi There,

Neil is doing fine - he was only taken to the hospital as a precaution, but was immediately released. He is obviously still shocked by the whole ordeal, but last time I spoke to him he was keen to join the memorial ride on Sunday.

Just a reminder of the memorial ride on Sunday the 26th. Starting at Cape Town Cycles in Uitzicht in Durbanville. Leaving @8:30. C U THERE.

Good morning fellow cyclists.

I feel a good start can be to put more signs/boards up on the known cycle roads/routes we train on to make motorists more aware of cyclists. Maybe the cycle bodies can get on board, even Supersport and our local Cycle shops.

There are boards up on the beginning of Botlery and Polka draai roads. It is so small you hardly notice it. Maybe the LBS can MARK their territory with a board saying that (LBS name) supports save cycling on this route.

Good idea Smurfy, but you cannot just put up branded boards where you want. Authorities frown on it.

Needs to be according to spec, approved, etc. It's a big schlep, I know as I tried having sponsored signs put up along "our" regular training routes while I was still up north.

Was so much red tape and hoops to jump through, I gave up on the idea. Had sponsors and everything in place.....

But maybe it will be different here in the WC, as they take cyclist safety a bit more serious, and the PPA can always use their influence to get it approved.

Tienie,

Lekka idea.

Some individual needs to champion this and (maybe) approach PPA board members like carbon29er and so on and move this idea forward into ACTION.

Hopefully, there is a champion around.

I`ll be glad to do the mailing work. Maybe even the minister of transport in the Western Cape. Will send a letter or request to the Full Sus as well. Awesome newspaper.  What you think.

Awesome, smurfy

There might also be an opportunity to petition at the memorial ride and send those signatures along to support your correspondence - just an idea

Will give the petiton wording a thought. Might be a good idea to get all the LBS involved with petiton boards at their shops. Should make for more signatures. The memorial ride is going to be covered by the Tygerburger. Will be great to mention it in their article.
