Seems that they are withdrawing funding for most of our top cyclists, what a load of ....

This from Graeme Joffe:

A big blow for some of SA’s top cyclists – SASCOC has taken away their OPEX funding.

Bernard Esterhuizen, Nolan Hoffman, Darryl Impey, Ashleigh Moolman and Mariske Strauss are all off OPEX.

Why?

Moolman is the Commonwealth bronze medallist and a nominee for SA sportswoman of the year while Strauss won the 2014 South African Cross-country National Championship Elite women’s title.

Am I missing something?

Does SASCOC just pull names out of a hat when it comes to funding or are the coffers starting to run dry?

The following cyclists are still on OPEX:
• Ernst van Dyk, Para cycling
• Gerald Rex, Para cycling
• Louis Meintjes, Road cycling
• Stuart McCreadie, Para cycling (he has since withdrawn from OPEX due to injury and work commitments)

Cycling SA has submitted an appeal to SASCOC for both Moolman and Impey.

They should be appealing for all five.

Commen no-sence.............

Considering that individual sport (cycling, running, swimming, etc) are more easily managed ito performance outcomes in comparison to team sports where other aspects such as team cohesion, team dynamics, game strategy, tactics, overall technical ability of team, etc. plays a role in performance. Chances of ROI is much better.

@Rocket-Boy No it does not (or should not). Look at swimmers, rowers and other sports. To be best in the world you have to train and compete with best in the world. very few manage that from South Africa

It seems as if not only Oscar Pistorius benefits from being disabled in this country.
