Hey Eric, brilliant man.

Where is the Mongoose ''Freemag'', i think it was called.

Do you remember Suzuki center in Cape Town ? They used to sell the SuperGoose and the Freemag. it was one of the buildings on Heritage square i think.

I lusted after the SuperGoose in 1982 and was dropping hints for my mom to buy me one for my birthday.

what did i get ?......a kerum board.

Thanks for the nostalgic trip down memory lane !

Hey,

To be honest I was only born in 82. I used to ride BMX in the 90s. So I am not from your exact era but I am glad I could bring back some of your memories. Yes there was a Mongoose Freemag. The bikes you refer to are the non looptail ones. Real classics. I am fortunate to own the 1981 model Motomag (the yellow one). I plan to do a full recondition and build the way I would have spec'd it back then.

We never really got what we wanted. I wanted to race BMX and was never by the means financially nor did my parents approve of the BMX riding. So yah...I always wanted these bikes again after making the mistake of selling mine. Now that I was by the means to afford it and make it my hobby I went out and searched for them.

Thanks man. I wish I raced too. It sucks that we cannot turn back time and try harder to get it right.

Have a look at my little blog too if you have time. I have some stories to tell. :)

Hey man, great job! Those two Supergooses takes the cake.

Btw, edit yourself out from that night ride pic and there is a perfect pic for the "ladies and bicycles" thread

Just thought I would share the progress.

This is my current built fleet now.

From left to right:
85 minigoose
83 minigoose
83 expert
83 supergoose III
83 supergoose III (2.0)

To be built is an 83 Californian that needs wheels rebuilding and an 81 motomag in yellow that needs a new cover of paint before I assemble it and then an 82 Minigoose.

I explored another option with the 85 Minigoose. Decided to swop out the red and blue parts for Gold and added the white tyres.

So I was a bit busy this holidays and did a couple of changes to a couple of bikes.

Here is the first:

85 Minigoose as it stands now.

Fitted the 1 3/8 wheels, Black V bars and the mini viscount seat.

http://s26.postimg.org/6kaywheyx/20150109_141652.jpg

Then I decided to remove the gold sprocket and fit a power disc and shimano chain ring.

Then I decided to dust off the old 81 Motomag and do a last mock build.

The above pic is with a set of gold Arayas...but then wanted to see what the new blue Arayas would look like (below)

This is a fun pic of me fitting tyres to hub and spokeless rims:

I took it further an removed the bars and fitted the 7C Blue Arayas I had an this is what it looks like now:

Still looking for a classic Mongoose for myself. In the mean while this old Burner has to do. (Was my wife's bike on school) - sorry not allowed to tell how old the Burner is...

my son (10) and I have some huge fun on our bikes.

You never too old (or tall) to have BMX fun!

Then I also decided to do a first mock build on the 82 Minigoose.

The frame, forks an bars are to be painted candy red but this is just a mock up of the parts and colours.
