IronMan Accommodation

Hi,

I am in the process of finalising accommodation for IronMan in March.  The previous times we stayed at the City lodge, which is awesome and very convenient.  However, it is getting a bit pricey to stay there.

Any other places that can be recommended?  I was looking at the garden court, 50% discount with vitality but it seems a bit out of the way.

Familiy, especially kids love the City lodge because they can stand in front of the hotel to support and run to the hotel room when needed.  So, it is now down to a matter of convenience vs price.

Was wondering if anyone has any other places they can recommend.  Maybe some info on the garden court from people that have stayed there previously?  We normally stay at the garden court with 70.3, so I am not worried about the hotel, but more the logistics of getting the family to support etc.

Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks

Garden Court is poor. It overlooks the McDonalds. Last year there were fights, shouting, cars revving, screeching tyres every night as the alcohol took over.

The room and breakfast was fine

Would not stay there again.

Where would you stay?

Previously stayed in 3 B&Bs. Two great, one blah.

There are so many just South of the Boardwalk.

If you have a car while you are there, easy to drive up the short distance on the first road inland and park just behind the Boardwalk. Short walk from there to the start.

there are a few guest houses behind the radison ranging from 3 to 5*.  we stayed there somewhere in a 4* place.  was very relaxed and the gf / kids / family are 200m away from meeting you on the bike and the run as you hit marine drive.  not nearly as crowded as at the start.  place we stayed is called kings something.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the feedback.  Booked at City lodge for now....just to make sure that we have a place.  City lodge is nice...and it is convenient for the kids to go up and down to support on the road.  Gives them the freedom to come and go as they please without having to stand outside supporting for 13hrs.  We can also leave them sleeping while in transition.....then my wife can fetch them just before I finish the swim.

Not sure if that will be possible with Garden court based on the location.

But will look at some of the other places.

I've booked in again at the Humewood.

It's a short walk from the start finish and is right on the run and cycle route.

The missus can either sit on the bar veranda or in the room and watch.

Also from a spectator point of view it is not as crowded at the start and finish.
