my sons bike came with a Novatec DO41SB front hub and it has a rockshock revelation fork. It seems that the previous person must have moded the hub to take the 15mm thru axle skewer. But it is very hard to insert it, seems to be catching on something about 2-3cm in and needs big force to get it in.  Can i take the parts of this hub to pieces and how ???

Send a picture, but normally there is a clip that holds the ends in.....you remove that clip and the ends come out....then you should see the bearings just behind that

The end caps will either have wrench flats that will allow you to unscrew them with a cone spanner, or they'll just pull off. Check the alignment of the bearings and end caps, there's probably something that's fitted very slightly skew.

They pull off. They are held in place with an O-ring.  Hold the end cap carefully in a vice and they should pop off.  To seat the bearing lay the wheel flat on your thighs while seated with your knees supporting the hub.  Using a small flat punch and a ball pene hammer knock the outer race on opposite sides until the bearing is seated.  You will hear the sound change when the bearing is fully in place.  Work carefully 'cause if the punch slips it could be the end of the bearing.

Where can one find the conversion kit for the D041SB hub? None of the LBS around me could help with this? I have two of these hubs I want to convert

so the end caps pop off easy enough. the problems seem to be the sleeve in between the 2 bearings is the problem. So i need to take this out and check it or replace it problem is how do you remove the bearings now as there doesnt seem to be a way to knock them out from the inside because of the sleeve....Helppppp

If you are not sure how to do this then rather get ur LBS to do it for you.

You get a tool (blind puller) that you insert. It expands and you attach a slide hammer and knock it out.  Failing this you can force the sleeve off the inner race of the bearing with a long punch and tap the bearing out.  You need a long punch to do this as you are working through the sleeve and hub.  Not the best method (unless you plan to replace the bearing) as you can damage it .Possibly the sleeve has deformed on the ends and you can clean it up with a file.  If you replace it make sure that the length is correct as if it is too short or long it will affect the bearing operation.  On that hub the axle tightens everything against the sleeve.

thanks for that David, will look at the ends ( cleaning up ) otherwise i think LBS is going to get the job as i dont have the correct tools it seems.

Naas is at Evobikes so PM him or their contact details are on www.evobikes.co.za.  If he does not have the bearings he can give you the codes and you can get from an industrial bearing supplier.

Hope I'm not digging up too old cows here. But can anyone still maybe assist with a 15mm conversion kit for a Novatec D041SB front Hub?
