Thanx. I am going to buy right now. Do I need to get adapters, or will they just fit?

You will need a front adapter if you upgrade the front from 160 to 180mm.

If you already have a 180 front disc then it should fit but the different brands dont always line up perfectly...e.g. the older Avid 180 was actually 185.

Best to buy new discs as well unless the current ones are almost new. Check the caliper sits nicely over the friction area of the disc.

Thanx JXV.

Decided to buy the ICETECH rotors as well!

Now to get rid of the Formula's..........

Shimano discs are a bit heavier and more robust than some of the others on the market but they don't bend as easily in my experience. they also have more steel and less air gaps in them, so more braking surface for the pads to work against. Enjoy

DONE!!!! Bought from CWC

Thanx all, feedback much appreciated.

Enjoy!

Also upgraded from C1 to XT with Ice rotors. Was absolutely worth it, never liked the feel of the C1s.

fwiw..... i ride shimano xt on my pyga trail beast complete with 140mm pike upfront and dropper post..... 180mm icetec up front....160mm icetec on back..... it stops on a dime.... with one finger.... and i weigh 105kg

on my lynskey xco bike (sub 10kg build) i ride formula r1 racing...... I FKN HATE THEM

the xt brakes make them look utterly stupid..... so much so that as soon as budhget allows i will be selling the formulas to replace with the 2015 xtr trail brakes.....

Let me know when you sell the R1's

Also just bought the XTs with ice tech rotors. I went 160 and 160 though, because that is my current setup and I find I have plenty of stopping power. 81kgs on a 29er epic.

Now I'm just waiting for the Di2 XTR to land in SA.

Also waiting for these....but will probably wait much longer for the money to appear in my bank account.

Thanx all. Will buy them right now! Now to figure out which size rotors to use? Weigh 74kg and 29er. Should i go with 180 front and back?

I weigh 76kg, and have 160 front and rear. I've never needed more, but must admit that I do mostly XC riding. If you're a trail beast, then A 180mm up front makes sense.

I see that the full groupset (which includes the XTR brakeset) costs just under 30k from chain reaction. But they only expect stock mid-May 2015. Shimano tells me that locally they should be available mid-March. They couldn't give me a price.

dang-nam-it! I just bought a bike, and it came with Formula C1! Now you guys are telling me they suck balls! Might have to pony up for something different

I have C1's. Weight 105kg and have NO issues stopping. Ride them and independently make your own mind up.

Don't buy something else right away. To be fair, I used my C1's for almost a year and did 6 marathons with them!

yep, that is the plan. I just like to get common opinions from people who have/had them. First steps to bed them in but good. Never had formulas before, anything special to know? Aside from normal disc brake bedding-in procedure
