Hans Dampf Trail Star for Rear Wheel?

Merry Christmas hubbers! Ive got a Christmas tech question... My wife bought me a set of Hans Dampf tyres for my FS as a Xmas gift. ...So stoked!!!! :-). Only problem is that they are both Trail Star compound. I'm wondering if I should exchange the one (for the rear wheel) for a Pace Star so that it will last longer. I ride Tokai & Contermans and similar rocky/gravel terrain. What you guys think?

Keep both and then go get a a different rear. Hd's on the front are great. There are a fair few options around for the back that will work great. WTB Wolverine isn't a bad call out back.

Just my personal perspective: if you brake drag alot, and tend to wear the middle down faster than the sides, and the sides dont show signs of being hammered, then get the pacestar compound. Its very grippy despite being slightly harder than the trailstar compound.

You can use HD front or rear, it really doesn't matter. But in general put the harder compound tyre at the back.

Out of interest: which carcasses are the HDs: vanilla Evo, Evo snakeskin, or super gravity?

They're both Evo snakeskin.

Should have excellent sidewall cut protection. If the grip feels abit iffy, just play around with the tyre pressure abit. I found the HDs to be seemingly pressure sensitive.  Otherwise, have fun and share with us your experiences with them :)

Just put the front tyre on... It looks amazing! For now ill use it with a Rocket Ron on the back, and keep the other HD I have aside, or exchange it for some other rear tyre.

Front HD... going to experiment with different pressures. I will update once I've had a few rides.

Is this a 26er set of tyres. ....If so, hold onto the spare and rather find an alternative rear tyre solution.

Good tyres are hard enough to find in the shops and are certainly not getting cheaper.

Especially decent trail tires whether it's in any of the wheel sizes, and especially in SA with our marathon menality.

Thanks for the advice Hairy. I guess my wife had foresight to get me 2 HD's! :-) Will definitely keep the 2nd one as a spare. I took it for a spin yesterday at Magic Forest and absolutely loved the grip and control.

Do you guys reckon I should stockpile on good 26er tyres? I'm in no hurry at all to part ways with my 2009 Trance!!!!!
