With the wheel between my legs, I can move the bar side to side a lot more than I would think is normal for a fork. There is a lot of flex in the crown and steerer tube.

Riding the bike, the fork feels very flexy and doesn't inspire any confidence.

I have tried removing the 25mm worth of spacers below the stem and doing test again. The flex is still there.

Is this normal for the 2014 Fox Float 32 Evolution Fork?

I did the same with a few bikes at the local Specialzed dealer with bikes fitted with Rockshox forks, and it nice and stiff.

Just remember if you are checking by using the wheel to lever off, the flex may possibly be somewhere in the wheel. I had bearing play in the rear wheel, replaced the wheel hub bearings problem still there, turns out the suspension pivot bearings were worn and not the wheel bearings but if I tested the wheel when holding the seat and not the swingarm it felt like it was in the wheel.

There should be virtually zero flex in the crown and steerer tube. This is the stiffest part of the fork by far and if you are getting rotational flex here then something is broken so stop riding it and get it checked out.

Forks normally have a bit of flex in the legs, more on long travel forks or when stanchion bushes are worn and less as the stanchion diameter increases. The 15mm thru axle system also resists flex more than older 9mm QR system so take these factors into account before comparing 2 forks.

I couldnt agree more!
