  1. I wanted a bike rack that matched the width of the Jimny. The Thule bike racks keep the front wheel on which makes the bike protrude on either side of the vehicle. I also don't need a two to three bike rack, just a single bike. Plus the crazy prices that they ask for their products. So I decided to make my own. I bought the seat post clamp from Thule as well as the rubber strap that holds the rear wheel in place. The front wheel from my Scott Spark bolts to the spare wheel of the Jimny, saving space. On a trip to the berg this week, there was no noticeable increase in fuel consumption with the bike on the rear of the vehicle.

  3. Is it a carbon or aluminium frame?
  4. 2013 cycling trip from Prince Albert to the top of the Swartberg Pass and back. 2.5 hours to the top and 30 minutes coming down. Momsen hardtail.
  5. I also notice the US Specialized site is down for maintenance which could hint at 2020 models being added.

  9. Only sensible reply so far. I am looking at it from a technical point of view, not whether people should use E-Bikes in the first place. E-Bikes opens up a whole world of cycling to people that might not normally get involved in cycling.
  10. With the development of E-Bikes and electronic shifting, would it make sense for the E-Bike to be able to communicate with the electronic shifting. For example, lets say you were in the wrong gear after cresting a hill, the bike could shift 3-4 gears so that your pedalling would be able to assist the electric motor.
  11. I see Specialized has dropped the price of the Stumpjumper ST Comp Carbon from R69k to R63k and the alloy Epic Evo from R49k to R44k. https://www.specialized.com/za/en/mens-stumpjumper-st-comp-carbon-29-12-speed/p/157620?color=236408-157620 https://www.specialized.com/za/en/epic-comp-evo/p/155039?color=239079-155039
  12. I bought the 2019 Stumpjumper Comp Carbon ST in 29" with XT pedals. My previous bike was a Camber Comp Carbon. The ST is a very versatile bike and way more capable than my trail riding skills will ever be. It doesn't feel as light and agile as the Camber Comp Carbon but the Fox 34 front fork on the ST is a huge upgrade over the Rock Shox Revelation on the Camber. The Fox 34 Rythym is not as sensitive to small bumps as a Rock Shot Pike fork though. ST has 120mm rear travel and 130mm front travel on the suspension. I run my rear suspension at 200PSI for a 73kg rider. I prefer the rear shock flip chip in the more upright position as I lean towards flatter trails. Stock tyres (Butcher/Purgatory) don't roll the quickest but feel very capable on the trails. The bike is noticeably quiet on the trails, the new chain-stay protector doing its job. It also feels incredibly plush and corrugated dirt roads are not an issue. The bike climbs like a mountain goat but never feels too rigid when in climb mode. The new frame rigidity is noticeable. The SRAM Guide brakes don't feel the most powerful but they don't squeak like Shimano XT brakes did on my previous bikes. I was sold the Specialized Power saddle in 155 width and was sceptical that I would get on with it. It has proved me wrong. I also added Raceface crank boots and ESI Chunky grips. Things I will change in the future: There is large saving in weight and unsprung mass by swopping out the NX cassette for GX or higher. 180 grams from NX to GX. Will add SantaCruz 35mm carbon riser bars and swop the stock stem for a Race Race (35mm bar diameter). https://enduro-mtb.com/en/specialized-stumpjumper-expert-29-review/

    Paul Zulu

I recently advertised my MTB and got numerous messages and a phone call from someone identified as Paul Zulu on What's App. The questions relating to the bike soon became personal questions and I realised that the individual was after more than just my MTB. After getting a risqué What's App message a week after I told the individual that the bike was sold, I told him "straight" that I didn't bat for the other team and I blocked him on What's App.

    Karkloof

I am going to be staying near Shafton Airfield in the Karkloof area during April. I would like to hook up with other cyclists that ride more for a social than lap times. Either week days or weekends and would suit average rider fitness. I would like to get to know the single track in the area.
  16. I am surprised how many Cambers are out there! Thought it would be an EPIC dominated post.
  17. What difference did the carbon rims make to the feel of the bike? How much were the rims?

  21. I stay in the Perth area of Westville north and looking for anyone interested in riding after work. I tend to cycle into the Westville Varsity as it is safe. PM me if you inserted in a quick ride and a bit of urban downhill thrown in.
  22. Don't think you understand how the Pike fork works with a comment like that! More tokens allow less pressure to be run which creates better small bump compliance but stops the fork from bottoming out on big jumps.
  23. Where will you ride in the Hillcrest area? Saturday morning would suit me or Sunday afternoon. I will only cycle in a group to keep things safe against crime.
