Does it get any better than Jonkershoek when it comes to trail and downhill riding in the Western Ca

Hi all. Happy new year to everyone out there. This is a very interesting topic for me and I'm quite interested to see what other riders have to say. I haven't been doing trail riding for very long. I started in Tokai with my KHS 3000 alite hardtail and that's pretty much where the bug bit me. All my riding buddies had dual sus trail bikes and I would try my hardest to keep up. Eventually after about a year of exploring all but the downhill trails in tokai I realized my KHS had taken a bit too much punishment and it was time for my first dual sus. After much searching I became the proud owner of a Trek fuel ex5 2013 for a great price! And proceeded to take her straight from the point of purchase to the lovely trails of tokai. All I can say is wow! Best choice ever! Anyways to make a long story slightly less...long. I moved to Gordons bay and have been riding Jonkershoek pretty much every weekend for the past year and it blows my mind nearly every time I ride there! Granted I've had to bad crashes and luckily no serious injuries but I really think can it get any better? I fully intend on branching out and trying out a few more trails as I've only ridden about 2 others(oak valley and helderberg plans) since moving to Gordons bay. Sorry for the blabbering but I would love to hear ur feedback.

Jonkers is great, but next time you have a couple of days come down to Eden District and come and see what George, Knysna and Plett has to offer, probably got some of the best singletracks in the world, check out garden route trail park also

I've heard that it's pretty darn good up that side. I'm busy planning a road trip up that side with my gf for April so will have to see if my other lady can come along for some sweet trails ;)

The Wannabees cycle club are very active in the Helderberg area. Don't know much about their trails but the network seems to be growing.

G- Spot in stellies is fun but short.

Bottelary - great for training with some fun ( but not super technical) ST

Contermanskloof in the Tygerberg area has downhill lines and also a great Blue trail. If you in the area you may as well ride down the road (tar if you are a non member sorry) and do Hoogekraal.

Welvanpas in Wellington has a selection of routes.

Schapenberg is very good and they have apparently sorted out the problem with security now, very nice trails there and great place for a coffee after the ride

Uuum. No. Not even close. The stuff up there is good but best in the world? No.

@ the OP the stuff at Steilte is good. Probably best to shuttle it. There's more stuff going in all the time. But Jonkers is pretty damn special.

I head down to garden route this time of year, every year. It would be great if the local riders in the area would map out where all these routes are. Trail park is easy to find, but did a huge runaround yesterday to find the start of the Saasveld route ( fun i might add, the routes) . Not sure if funding is a issue in this regard, would be great to ride more of these hidden gems.

I have ridden schapenberg a few times but not in quite a while. What saw then really can't compare to the quality found at Jonkershoek imo. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong people.

Saasveld and Witfontein are some of the areas which you can ride for free, these areas are built and maintained by mtbers who love the sport, We also have Jonkersberg, but there you need to be a member of the hillbillies to enter, membership is something stupid like R100 per year, so basically its also free. They just finished some of the tracks at Africa Bike, who charges R30 per rider and there is also Colenera Estate that has some nice XC tracks, if you head down to Plett side do the Harkerville routes, also spectacular scenery, Oudtshoorn side you can ride Chandelier game farm or Cango Mtb trails

Welvanpas in Wellington is great, especially the Black Route. Bring your climbing legs.
