Recently visited Italy and the respect they have for cyclist is an eye opener. Driving the Amalfi Coast, 1 lane per direction,cyclist 2 abreast. Cars, busses etc patiently waited until safe to pass.

Recently visited Italy and the respect they have for cyclist is an eye opener. Driving the Amalfi Coast, 1 lane per direction,cyclist 2 abreast. Cars, busses etc patiently waited until safe to pass.

In the UK as well the cars and busses sit patiently behind cyclists who have taken primary position on the road. Primary position is the middle of the lane as the want to see and be seen.. But here it seems that a majority of drivers think this is illegal and cyclists must ride in the gutter

In Belgium, u hit a cyclist or pedestrian you in poooo, not just a little pooo but jail time pooo and this goes for all of western Europe AFAIK.

Would not like to hijack this sad thread but feel this is an incorrect statement.

Not sure which European countries you base this on but having grown up there and having visited a fair chunk I would def challenge you on this.

Being From Europe myself and having been back there on a few occasions in the last few years. You cannot even begin to compare the driving standards in a civilized country to what is happening in SA.
