Juriekruger Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Hi, I currently own a Silverback sola 4 and I am looking for an upgrade. I want to do stage races and longer 1 day events. Budget is about 40k I currently have my eye on the scott spark 910 or a specialized epic in mind. Which one would be the best buy and is there any other recommendations?

If not, get either the 2015 Spez Camber Comp Carbon or Elite Carbon. You'll be just as fast, but a hell of alot more comfortable. WrightJnr Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Spark and Epic both awesome XC Race bikes. Probably slightly better component spec on the Spark. I had a 2014 Epic and loved it. I've ridden my mates Spark 920 quite a bit and for me the Epic just felt better. I ride in JHB and mostly around 50km so I can't offer an opinion for multi day stage races. I've just had a rock strike destroy my Epic frame and replaced it with a Camber. Reason is most of my mates ride Trail bikes and when I've ridden then they've been huge fun. Don't be fooled that a trail bike is slow, I've matched my Strava segments and improved segments that were downhill. So I'm faster overall. More comfortable, less maintenance and ready for almost any trail in SAF now. You need to ride the bikes you interested in. Specialized Ceder Square gave me a Demo bike for a full weekend before I decided. I am a Spez fan but it's not a cut above the other major brands. IMO they all great and us weekend warriors will never take any of them to their max.
Johny Bravo Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Coming from a Sola, Epic for sure. If you familiar with a ht, get the Epic. Scott have had a lot, and I mean a lot of frame failures lately. Browse the Hub. Comp Carbon, about R44 000 after discount. Camber is great, but coming from a hard tail you would really appreciate the pedalling efficiency and sharp handling of the EPic.

johanpre44 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I would go for a dual sus that is a little less XC Race oriented (like getting the Spez Camber over the Epic or Giant Trance over Anthem). For myself I will simply get an Alloy frame to save cost, and maybe upgrading the wheels to something lighter/better.
