HI All,

My almost 3 year old has been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and is unable to ride a bike. Problem is she is really keen on trying. I'm looking for something which she would be able to sit in comfortably. No pedals required but I'll need to be able to push it. It would also require some mechanism/ straps that would prevent her from falling out of the seat. If you know of anything, please let me know. I'f like to get it before her birthday next month. Thanks

Hi Mo. Firstly, I pray that you and your family will be strengthened and that you may grow together with your daughter. Having a child with a disability can put a lot of strain on a family, spiritually, emotionally and financially. I wish and your daughter all the best

Now to your question, I have also done a lot of research for my son, who is autistic. I have not really found something very suitable for him and most bikes are too small or have only two wheels and he needs 3 to balance. I did come across some bikes with might be suitable for your child's needs, but the problem is that you will have to import. Did not find anything local. Hopefully there is someone who will be able to help you locally. If you google "special needs bikes, or bikes for disability" you will find some examples. Hope this is of some help

Hi Look,

Thank you for your kind words. She was diagnosed at birth and thus far shes done nothing but amaze us with her determination and all around spirit.

As for the bike, I've done some google searches and found some bikes available internationally. That issue I have with that is that it may not be here in time for her birthday which is on 14/02. I'm late, I know. The other problem is that we won't be able to check the fit before we buy it. I'll keep looking and post here if I find anything.

I have considered the trailer, but I do know she wants to try and do these things herself and that is exactly the kinf of attitude I'd like her to grow up with.

Tristan's birthday is on the 11th feb????. I would consider the trailer if you don't come right. It still gives them a sense of freedom and she will love it and then get the bike a bit later in the year. Tristan really enjoys being pushed around in a wheelchair and I know know he would love a trailer

Will look into the trailer as well then. Any ideas which one are good, sturdy?

Have not really done research on bike trailers, but I know Thule makes a nice one.

The brand is Avalanche. Not sure on model but I bought it at Sportmans about 2.5 years ago
