So how do we know when to change cassette, chain rings and jockey wheels. Did a chain change already.

If you put a new chain on and it slips on the teeth when you push hard on the pedals while riding.

 

I normally have to fit a new cassette after every 3rd sometimes 4th chain. I guess it depends a bit on your riding conditions and how you maintain your bike.

 

If the teeth on your chainrings, jockeys and cassette are worn to sharp little spikes then they are long overdue [emoji12]...seen this a few times.

What would a good old chain thread be without the inventor of the chain himself .

That would have to be true ????

People are debating a higher authority or deity elsewhere yet they are gullible enough to fall for scam artists like these ,the mind boggles .

I cleaned off the chain by rubbing it down with some Paraffin on a rag and then Re-lubed with some wet weather lube.

 

The chain suck on the small ring reduced slightly but still popped up a few times under hard load where the chain stays stuck on the ring gear and then pulls the jockey completely parallel and I stop dead.

 

I carried on riding and the problem got less as I the ride continued. 

 

Did 39 km across Table Mountain last night and seems like maybe the new chain just had to wear off some high spots on the front ring from the first chain.

 

The reason I changed chains was last time I left the chain on too long and I had to change cluster, chain and ring gears.

Its possible that there may be stiff links in the chain. what I mean is for instance, when you break a chain with a chainbreaker tool, and then reassemble the chain without using a powerlink, the chain breaker pushes the plates of the chain link close, and the link gets quite tight or stiff. You need to hold the chain either side of the 'stiff link' and flex it towards you and away from you a few times, till the link loosens up.

as you say, it may needed a little wearing in too :)
