I'll definitely take some pics on the day.. as well as a few more build pics.

@hellocolour: I live in Pta... but look out for me on the day, I'll be the one flying past on the down hills, and crying on the up hills..

I got a couple of goodies as well. Now I'm not a big fan of the coloured chain, but I found out that Bmx parts are not readily available.

It seems like none of the bike shops (3 that I visited) can help me with anything decent. The closest i came to a set of tyres was like this:

Me: Hi, I'm looking for bmx tyres
Sales person: What kind of tyres?
Me: a More road oriented tyre...
Sales person: (showing me a bmx with exactly what I want) Like this?
Me: yes, how much are they?
Sales person: R150 - R200
Me: hmmm, ok, I'll take two tyres.
Sales person: Oh tyres. I thought you want the bike?
Me: No just the tyres, Can you get those, or order them?
Sales person: No.

Why the hell would you ask me what I want. Show me what I want in your store. Give me a price on it, and then tell me I cannot buy it...? :cursing:

What's the roads like during the event?

I need some local knowledge. What would the best route be to get out from Noordhoek?

My best guess would be like the attached pic, take M35, towards the M5. Would that work?

Ergh. From Noordhoek, your best bet is to get on to the M3 and into town. The m5 just adds distance for no reason.

Ou Kaapse Weg, left at the traffic lights on to spaanschemat river road. Right @ Tokai Road (2nd circle) and then left on to the M3. They only use the outbound lane of the M3, so you'll be fine going in. Then all the way into town on the M3 and then onto N2, and at the top of hospital bend you should keep right, and stay on the N2 as if you were going towards the CTICC. Then try and find parking somewhere around there.

What I'm going to do is go in relatively early, and have breakfast at one of the coffee shops around there before our start time.

Thanks for the info. I'll head in that direction then.

Luckily I won't need parking. My wife will drop me off, as close to the start as possible, then dash off for the day.  And then we'll see where I end up during the race....

We should meet up before the start.

In that case, she can drop you off right near the start, by the CTICC / Protea Hotel. Then it's a 300m or so ride to the start.

And yes, agreed. I will be moerse slow though, so you'll probably ride away from me.

Does the traffic flow near the start on race day?

I don't think I'll ride away as you say, but I'm definitely going to try my best to finish the race.
