Good morning NukeproofPeanut,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It is an unacceptable situation that we strive to avoid.

  • Our signage implementation is underway currently and this will limit access to a single entry / exit point and includes new rules for the pump track.
  • We are in the process of training and implementing marshals for the pump track and jump track areas for the weekends and they will manage the use to allow more advanced riders dedicated use of the track for training.
  • We have already built a kids pump track in the kids area to start limiting the use of the main pump track by young riders.
I will send you a DM with our contact details so we can speak to you directly.

We apologies for the situation and will investigate accordingly.

Thank you

PwC Bike Park Management.

Thank you, I've received your PM and sent you a mail.

Sadly I did not have my phone to take a photograph of the guy, nor did I get his name to press charges. I find you will always get people like this, who are unable to verbally prove a point and tend to resort to violence.

That said, I hope my post and the subsequent actions taken will reduce the number and chance of these encounters for other cyclist at the park.

Anyone who knows me and dave (he'd make a good SO, just not my type  ), knows we very chilled, so escalating would only happen in extreme cases.

Could you give us some sort of time lines to the above actions you are going to be taking, as every time there is an incident, cyclelab is always planning signage, but it seems slow in being realised...

This^

With all the signage companies vying for business, it normally takes max 3 days to get signage done....

The issue around the pump track has been going on since opening day. And why is management not available on a weekend day? Weekends are after all "prime time", the only time of the week when management should be there all the time.

Dont get me wrong, there has been some good work done, and the plants around the BMX track look awesome...  I think you could have used the plant budget on sorting the signage out before beautifying the berms though.

Please also make sure the signage is SUPER CLEAR! Because as was pointed out, the pump track is right in front of the party spot, so it is only natural that the kids and parents will gravitate towards it - the kiddies track is somewhat to the side and gets neglected in favor of the pump track.

The signage is being installed in the main public area at the moment and it is being rolled out

to include all the trails and routes over the next few weeks.

We are also updating the wording on the pump track rules and signage as a result of some of the possible problems this incident has highlighted.

The pump track will be marshalled and the marshal will manage 'time slots' for the different ages that want to use the track. This will give everyone the  opportunity to ride the track correctly and safely for their skill level and avoid an incident like this repeating itself.

We do encourage the use of the track by the kids as we have experienced that most get their confidence on the pump track rollers before taking on the small line of the jump track and with correct marshalling, everyone can enjoy the tracks and trails.

Safe riding.

Hi Dirt Merchant,

There is a manager on duty over the weekends. Saturday was incredibly busy and the manager on duty had no choice but to step out briefly to get more change for the reception entry system.

The incident highlighted an internal process that was lacking in managing a client complaint of this nature and we will be correcting this process with the park team.

Just want to post a follow up.

I was contacted by Marc from the cycle park and we talked through all these points and the ones i raised in OP.

I genuinely feel Marc was sincere and corrective action will be taken by management to prevent these types of incidents from happening in the future.

Hey Fans,

As you all know, the PwC Bike Park is really busy with kids parties and young riders on Saturdays and Sundays.

As a suggestion to all of you that love the PwC Pump Track and only have the weekend days to come practice, please try come ride the pump track before 08H30 or late afternoon from 16H30.

The pump track is also slightly quieter between 12H30 and 13H30 as the morning party guests leave and the afternoon party guests arrive during that hour.

As stated in our previous post, we will be marshalling it and if there are several riders wanting to practice, we will then manage it accordingly for all of you to enjoy the track as well.

Hey Fans,

All our Pump Track signage and rules are up.

Perimeter boards are in place limiting to a single entry / exit point and directional signs are up to control the flow. A marshal manages the track during the busy weekend periods.

We are super Stoked with the results and hope you will pop around to come see all the awesome changes and get some practice in for the upcoming Pump Track Challenge.

Next Pump Track challenge is being held on the 28th Feb, R30 entry fee to compete and the entry fees go towards prizes money, including additional Cyclelab and PwC Bike Park vouchers.

Practice starts from 16H00 and competition from 17H00.

Free park entry from 16H00 for riders joining us.
