Service centre changed my fork from Duel air to Solo air

Rock Shox admitted it was the best move they made. I chatted with them at Euro bike way back in 2004 and they were struggling with customers and dual air then already. Once they got the bleed valve in Solo Air sorted they were glad to say cheers to Dual Air

I sent my Reba Duel Air in for service and new stanchions at a cost of

R3800.00 ( quoted and accepted)When the fork came back it was converted to solo air. On enquiry I was told that the spares for Duel air are no longer available. Can anyone confirm this. Also I would have thought that the Sram service department should have told me this at the quoting stage.

Totally agree.

Sounds like you were charged for new stanchions and labour and not the cartridge upgrade

I was quoted around the same a the time when i had the option on a damaged fork, was around R2600-2700 odd for the parts and R700 labour which would have gone up by now.

And then they travel with the pressures set up like that, ride with reduced travel and blame the fork for the problem.

The other thing people also tend to forget, the accuracy of said shock pumps as well as the amount of pressure escape removing the hose from the valve.

This was the best move Rock Shock ever made.

Agreed, its a bit of a pain having to check the pressure every other ride.

Would this be a standard job if the fork was just going for a normal seals and wiper service?

If you know how to setup the dual air it works brilliantly

its not a question of set up, its a question of retaining that setup and repeating it with the variability of adiabatic pressure, variability in shock pump performance, ambient temperature and fork condition. The Dual air system worked brilliantly when you got it right but once something changes its a real beech to get sorted and working brilliantly again. I hated that SID WC DA. not only was it flexible as a wet noodle but the DA cartridge worked and then it didn't.

Start set up all over again and get it performing for a few rides then we back to setting up again.

For 95% of riders the SOLO AIR is a much better system and when the SOLO AIr outsells the DA by a ratio of 10:1 then as a company you going to ask yourself "Do we need this hassle?"

But you have to know what yo uare doing - I prefer it to the solo air setup.

Now I want  4 way adjustables.... just to make life interesting....
