Goosebay Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 The 45km doesn't have much gravel road - the 30km route follows some of this road around the Kraaibosch dam and Uilenskraal river. It really is a beautiful area to cycle in

Goosebay Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Heading back after a days work on the trails - wet and misty but looking good. Alwyn's bossiekap technique keeps the left track clean. From the green hut down this should be the preferred side to ride.

Goosebay Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Copied from one of the organisers newsletters "We are aware that you had a write up on the race in your newsletter and I would like to ask if it will be possible to add something relating to the value that entrants that finish The Funky Fynbos MTB races will get this year? The Festival is a Family Festival and we encourage people to bring their children along for the weekend, as there will be a lot for them to do on the beautiful De Uijlenes farm and in the surrounding area. Each finisher will receive a commerative buff that would normally retail at R250.00 as well as an entry to the adult’s Fat Bike draw worth R50.00 as well as a goodie bag. The Goodie bag will contain, a Value Directory with discount tickets for attractions, restaurants and so on, and, amongst other things, a pair of Mohair socks worth R100.00. These more than cover the entrance fee AND the entrants also get to ride the race!!!...There is a draw for a 20” kids Fat bike as well and tickets are part of the short MTB race. Visitors will be able to purchase additional tickets for the draws for both Fat Bikes. There will also be lucky draw prizes of Shark Dives and Whale watching, worth around R120,000 for participants in the races. Our charity this year is the Flower Valley pre-primary school and there will be a Rockets pop up Gym raffled to raise additional funds for them. A number of venues in the Gansbaai area are offering live music and the SA vs Japan Rugby opening match will be showing at a lot of different venues on big TV screens. Gansbaai has great restaurants to suit every taste, fantastic White Shark Diving and Whale watching from Kleinbaai Harbour and there will be Helicopter flips from the De Uijlenes Festival Hub.Some of the operators are offering discounts for Festival entrants for the weekend. The local Lions Club will be offering Fish Braais in the Gansbaai Harbour, with live music to raise money for charity. Ivanhoe Sea Safaris will be operating Whale watching trips from the Gansbaai Harbour.The Festival web site, www.funkyfynbos.co.za has all of the information regarding other attractions such as a Trail Run, 4X4 obstacle course and outrides, model aircraft flying, Golf competition, fresh water fishing competition with a pop up restaurant at the Lomond Wine estate, horse riding, lots of entertainment for kids.Please let us know if there is anything else you need from us."

Goosebay Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Wel, lyk my ek gaan klippe kou...Jy gaan! The new section - starts smooth, then rocky then smooth again, some surprises to keep you on your toes, a little rock here, a tight switchback there.....

Race 2 weeks away - should be really good. Dave says the goody bag includes a pair of mohair socks, and finishers receive a Rockets buff - not a bad deal! The guys from Rockets have been amazing with their support
