Tips for tourist rides in Cape Town

Hi,

we're in CPT in 10 days.
We have 2 bikes at our disposal, and we want to see some of the city by bike. I'm reasonably fit (and should be since I'm doing the Argus! ) Husband is less fit, but not too bad either.
I'm looking for some rides we can do together while getting to see some of the city. Are bikes permitted on the Seapoint promenade? Which areas are safe? Where are the safe bikelanes? I was thinking of doing a tour around the city bowl, along Bree Str, Longstr, Bo-kaap, Waterfront,... Oher suggestions? We're staying in Tamboerskloof
If we stop somewhere along for a drink, it is safe to just lick the bike to a pole or sonething? Do we need to keep them in sight?

sorry if the questions seem silly, maybe I've been reading too much topics about robberies.

Hi and welcome to CT :)

Yes you can ride on the Seapoint promenade, but be mindful of pedestrians as they have right of way.

If you are going to cycle in the city keep in single file, stop at red lights and stop signs and dont cycle to far up Bo-Kaap or at night!. Yes you can lick the bikes to a pole but keep it in sight of where you are chilling. Try and drink at an establishment that has side walk seating.

There are a few places on Bree.

Also check out this video on how to protect your bikes while having a coffe or drink somehere, very helpful. :)

There is a cycle lane that goes from the City to Tableview / Blouberg area.

Nice place called Eden on the Bay with a lovely view of the ocean / table mountain.

There are quite a few different restaurants and plenty space to put your bikes.

Atlantic seaboard up to Llandadnou and around to Hout Bay/Chapman's Peak is always a good ride and includes the last bit of the Argus route.

Other than licking your bike, you should probably lock it as well.

Some very nice street side coffee shops where you can sit with your bike close to you.

cool, that seems a perfect ride. Where does that start, I can't find it on google maps? (google maps for bikes is not available for CPT yet)
