Passed the scene of an accident on the R45 outside Franschoek this morning. People were crowding around somebody lying in the grass and there was a bike on the side of the road with a mangled back wheel. Anybody know if the cyclist is ok?

Not to hi-jack your thread..... apologies.

We also had a close one this morning.  Couple of us were riding the Argus route.

I could not believe this, at Longbeach this 1/2 Ford bakkie with non-European occupants was waiting to turn into a road across the peloton's bow. There was about 10 of us heading into the wind single file.  He got inpatient and just went. The peloton had to brake and scramble to get out the way. WTF...???

End hi-jack

We also passed this accident scene about 2 minutes after it happened. Rider was hit from behind by an old Toyota Conquest, flipped onto the windscreen and hurled off the road into the ditch.  When we left the rider was quite banged up, but conscious.

Does anyone have an update?

Get well soon fellow cyclist

Sheez, this scares me. I consider this one of the safer roads out there due to the huge yellow line. And it's a straight road so cars can see you from far away.

Glad he's okay

There are no safe public tar roads, they all range from very dangerous to extremely dangerous.
