Anyone here have any views on the PDM 530's?

My 520's took a beating in a race in Grabouw - lots of rocky technical single track  ...so probably need to look at something with a bit more "protection" for the future.

Or is the cage around the pedal just unnecessary weight?

Sorry for hi-jack KlotzC!

No problem...

Just upgraded to PDM 530 from 520 last week, basically they feel the same as 520s with perhaps a bit more for your foot to rest on when frantically trying to reclip on a steep climb. Not sure if 3 rides is long enough to give a worthy opinion but I'm happy with them.

Look S Track, mine have taken some big hits on rocks and are still working as day 1. The clip-in and out is very solid, and they have no adjust-ability like Shimano (except for 2 types of cleats that Look provide, one being called "dcs easy cleats" and the other the normal cleats), the ones I received were the "easy" cleats. Not sure if that's a standard thing with the shipments but mine came with them.

Time pedals. In my entire time riding mtb (14 years) I've had three brands: shimano, cannondale version of spd and then Times. Been consistently using Times since 2002 and have never had cause to complain or reason to change. They work, in all conditions all the time. An added bonus is that most people don't ride Time pedals so they won't be able to take your steed for a spin ;-)
