Jerome Pahl Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Hi all, I am looking at getting into MTB and looking to get something better than a PNP or Makro special. I only have a budget of around R 5k and have visited a few of the local bike shops in JHB. From what I have seen so far, my choices are an Axis A60, Titan Sport or Giant ATX. Frame size medium and 27.5 wheels. I am not opposed to buy a decent pre-loved bike as long as it has been serviced and is in good condition. I am really only able to ride on the weekend and am very unfit, so the EASY trails would be my destination, probably at Rietvlei or Modderfontein. Can anyone offer any suggestions and recommendations? I know that I should be spending more but my budget is really stretched at 5k. Many thanksJ

You could post your suggestions of potentials from the classifieds and ask abiout them here. Otherwise any of the brands you suggested are worth a look depending on model. Remember you need to set aside some cash for a riding shorts, shirt, and most importantly a HELMET. there are also other things you may want to consider getting sooner rather than later... but they will occur to you after your first couple rides

Second hand: after first ride its chain, cluster, chainrings, cables, outers, jockey, tyres and then brakes and you end up paying more than bargained for. But either way, welcome to the world of fun.....
BenReaper Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Obviously you have to be weary when buying second hand,but by going that route you can afford a much better specced bike within youre budget. Alternatively you will have to settle for a entry level Axis,Titan or maybe one of those new Rapid Bikes at R5k.
