DEXA Body Composition Scan in Cape Town

Saw a thread or two here asking for details on doing a DEXA scan.

I looked for a long time to find a DEXA operation in Cape Town that can do a body composition scan and report accurate fat and lean muscle percentage. The DEXA machines at the various hospitals only do bone density.

Eventually found a practice in Durbanville, had it done (13% body fat) and immediately went to Virgin to compare (19%) and then home to check my bio-impedance scale (23%).

You get a pretty cool report with an actual graphic on where on your body the fat sits. As the old saying goes; inside every fat person is a thin one trying to get out. With this scan, you literally see the thin person.

That's amazing! What did you pay for that? I wonder if you can get it done in Jozi.

How much for a scan?

Was around a grand for the scan and report. Something I'd do once or twice a year.

I was 6% done at the SSISA.

Phoned the SSISA multiple times. No-one knew if or when and by whom it can be done there.

 

Left messages for Jeroen and the guy (James Smith) whose name appeared on the DEXA reports Noakes had done on the twin sisters. Never called back.

 

Mailed as many of the people I could find contact details for on the SSISA web-site. No luck.

 

After many weeks of searching found the crowd in Durbanville and they helped me immediately.

 

BTW, had exactly the same experience a few months ago when I tried to find someone to do LDL-P size tests. Again saw the actual report with contact details for the SSISA on the reports that came with the Cereal Killers 1 movie. Phoned and mailed SSISA a few times, no luck. Eventually tracked Dirk Blom down and had the tests done.

 

So, if the SSISA actually do do the things they make movies or shows about and then publish it everywhere, it would be great if they inform reception and staff. Could've save me a few months of effort.
