Jonkershoek fire

Went for a ride in Jonkershoek today - great in spite of the blackened surroundings. But chatting to the guys at the gate and some of the forestry guys I am concerned that there is a real risk of Jonkershoek being closed completely until harvesting is finished because some people just don't want to toe the line. They are having to put more people on site just to manage guys that insist they can ride where they like. The contractors that do the harvesting stand to lose their contracts if they have serious injuries related to their operations - this would put them out of business completely. If it's too difficult to manage the only way they can deal with it is close it completely. In the words of the guys at the gate "men behaving like children!".

So my plea is this:

- Stay out of the no go areas

- if it's taped off, turn around

- even if it's not taped off but there are harvesting operations or loading operations don't try and get past, turn around.

My apologies. I posted the wrong link. Don't know how that happened. I tried this and it worked. Let me know if you have problems.

Cheers.

Looks like there's been a fair bit of regrowth happening! Stoked to see it.

Yes and on the lower section some of the smaller pines even have green shoots at the top. I think, though, that they will all come out. I'm sure the place will start to look OK by the end of Winter although it will be very different with no trees.

The place where Lower Canary was is flat. Very depressing to see.

Another video. Not cycling this time but still Jonkers. I saw the rivers were flowing after the rain and thought I'd see how it looked underwater. Hand held but I think it's still cool....

well its much nicer that trails going up in flames. When was it taken. What is left to ride?

Considering the new DH line for the weekend assuming its open to the public.

But a better idea of which trails are actually open and ridable would be nice.
