All in good time - we have ideas of what trails we will use - but they are not set yet ...

Will do videos of snippets of stages that we think are tech and need a look at ...

Will not reveal stages until the week of the race ...

We will mark the Trails on the Friday 17th the day before the race

I can say that we have the following ideas on the cards ...

4 stages each with their own new piece ....

- 1 BRAND NEW enduro stage that I doubt more than 10 people who race have ridden ... I would think that 80% of the field dont even know the trail exists ...

- New open grass hillside section with natural cambers etc.

- 2 New forest sections with lots of roots and cambers.

- 1 New section with lots of corners and cool rock rolls

This will be my first KZN event, and I am going to try the DH on my trail bike :w00t:

I just have a question about full face helmets for the DH, do they need any certification, and are helmets that have a removable chin bar acceptable? I know you need a peak

Also are the helmet rules for this event any different compared to other DH events in the country or DH parks abroad?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Dave ...

You need a fullface that has a peak ...

I doubt helmets with removable chin guards are allowed.

But let me check

In general races in SA are sanctioned by CSA so abide by CSA (and therefore UCI) rules so the same rules will apply throughout ...

As for bike parks abroad - I dont know as each park may have its own regulations set out by its National Federation

CSA rules

14.02.004 Wearing of a helmet which meets minimum ANSI/European standards is mandatory during training and racing, and should be able to absorb severe shock.

19.05 Clothing/Protection
CYCLING SA MTB cannot authorise downhill protection standards obligatory for all events since different standards apply in different countries.

19.05.001 Compulsory protective gear
An approved full-face helmet must be worn both when racing and when training on the course. The helmet must be fitted with a visor.
Broad full-length trousers made from rip-resistant material incorporating protection.
For the knees and calves, or broad-cut shorts made from rip-resistant material plus
Knee and calf protectors with a rigid surface.
Long sleeved shirts
Full finger gloves

19.05.002 Recommended protective gear
Based on current experience, Cycling SAMTB strongly recommends that riders wear the following protection:
Back, Elbow, Knee and Shoulder protection with a rigid surface.
Thigh padding
Shin padding

it doesnt say anything about removable chin guards, but I would be confident that the Chief Commissaire may not be happy.

Maybe contact him directly and ask - I will PM you his number
