I'll throw in a mention for the Wahoo Kickr. Beautiful piece of kit with iphone/ipad/mac/pc controlled resistance. Works great with CycleOps Virtualtrainer apps. Doesn't require you to chew up your back tyre, and relatively quiet too. Very stoked with mine.

CycleOps also do their Silencer trainer which is similar to the Kickr, but due to past responses (read lack of sales) the guys at Bicycle Power stopped bringing them in.

Yip. very nice piece of kit....its open platform is quite appealing(they work with almost all the third party software vendors) and is both Ant+ and BLE compliant...basically futureproofing your purchase.

SHED SOME LOAD THIS WINTER AT THE CYCLEOPS VIP TRAINING HUB

This special offer is available to the first 100 new members who take advantage of our May ‘shed some load’ membership offer (T&C’s apply).

VIP (Virtual Indoor Power) Training

While ‘power’ is the new standard for cycle training, the same programmes work just as well for general fitness, weight loss and recreational purposes. The trick is not to let the buzzwords distract us the simple principles that help us improve our fitness.

How can we use ‘power’ to improve fitness ?

Power is simply the rate at which we deliver energy. Everybody has a baseline maximum level, generally called Functional Threshold Power (FTP). Our programmes are all designed to vary energy output rates against your threshold level by changing three basic things – force, speed and time.

Our overall work effort is a combination of both force (how hard we pedal) and speed (how fast we spin our legs), which we vary continuously throughout every session. Each workout then forms part of a personal programme designed to best meet your objectives, no matter how big or small. For example, if you simply want to reach a goal weight by the end of winter, we will structure a programme. Similarly, if you’re a performance-based cyclist who wants to achieve a PB at the next 947 Cycle Challenge, we will adapt the programme to suit.

Our CycleOps equipment and supporting software accurately monitors and records energy (kJ) and other outputs, enabling you to monitor your progress and compare how ‘hard’ a particular workout ‘feels’ or how your rate of recovery improves, as the programme proceeds. Discovery Vitality members can earn points through a simple log-in or upload procedure. For the more adventurous, we offer realistic Virtual Reality rides on some of the world’s iconic routes.

Benefits of Indoor Training at The CycleOps VIP Hub ?

·         Cycle-based training is very effective in its ability to accurately measure the correct intensity required for a given programme, as well as being low impact, safe, secure, social and convenient.

·         Flexibility to design workouts for multiple purposes, which we have done in collaboration with a team of experts at Science-to-Sport.

·         Improved metabolic efficiency. The usual rule of thumb is that ‘calories in= kilojoules out’ but well trained athletes can substantially improve this.

·         Most people can improve their output rates from about 300 kJ per hour (relatively unfit) to over 1 200 kJ per hour (elite athletes). This will always translate to better performance.

·         Focused indoor training achieves all the above better than random outdoor sessions where it is difficult to consistently measure and monitor the programme

·         Supporting software (Training Peaks and other systems) gives powerful feedback and reporting capability.
