Hi Hubbers,

Need help here, ready to go the Fixie/SS route, however should I buy something like these Simple Sam or get an old school frame and build my own or alternatively I see some awesome ready to ride bikes like Alpina etc in the for sale section already Fixie/SS ettc?

Anybody on here have a simple sam ? How is the quality, build and ride etc?

Thanks for helping.

Simple Sam bikes are awesome, just buy them and ready to ride, easy route to follow. Good bikes, not to expensive, but quite heavy and you might reconsider the gear ratio, depends if you live in a hilly part of town.

Then also a good option is to buy a fixie/ss already made, there is enough for sale these days, such as Hunter Cycles or Whippet Cycles who specialise in SS conversions.

Or you could build your own. Much fun, but the parts have to be second hand, cobbled together bike, with spares given to you by your mates, it gives it much character and is fun to bring such a bike project to fruition.

Build your own, as suggested above.

In these times of quick-this, and get-it-now-that, it's great being able to conceive, source and cobble together something that's uniquely yours.

80% of the joy of ss/fixie is the process (although riding it is pretty cool too).

Definitely build yourself!loads of fun and the bike becomes very special and unique when you know exactly how much each bolt has been tightened and what what it took to get it there. ....If you need parts and advice. I'd recommend whippet cycles.

Another vote for build your own. It's a lekker journey. Hunter cycles is no more but you can go to sprocket and Jack in JHB.
