I need to replace the seat post on the my HT mountain bike. Its a Carbon frame (Fondriest F900). What would you guys recommend? A carbon post or a alloy post? I have never used a carbon post so is a little skeptical. Does weight lay a big role? I weigh around 80-85 kg. Any recommendations.

My experience with carbon seatpost.

the pro:

It is apparently beneficial on a hardtail bike to take some of the harshness out of the aluminium. To make the ride a bit more comfortable.

Gram for gram it's lighter than a full ally seatpost, however I think the marginal difference of a couple of grams is not worth the money. (but I ride a steel bike with entry level components.)

the con:

My wife had one on her bike, and she had to make an adjustment to the post on a ride. she overtightened the post, cracked it and it deteriorated more during the ride. (it did not break off however.)

What I am saying is, it should be fine but the risk of over tightening on the trail without a torque wrench could be problematic.

Agree with the Rocker.

Not worth using Carbon for very small weight  saving  (comfort?  yeah right) vs big risk factor when it goes bust.  Are you able to see when Carbon is going to crack/fail so as to be warned?  -just asking.

Well that is exactly my concern.
