70.3 : 2009

Recommended Posts

Heres the deal

1. I would love to do this.

2. The only triathlon (not really a triathlon at all) I have ever done was an indoor one in a gym (i like to classify it as a "brokeback triathlon")

What kind of traning is involved to do an ok-ish time - bearing in mind that my running is about as effective as certain South African electricty suppliers, and I swim as well (and as much) as a canned sardine. Cycling is ok.

C'mon hubbers, hook a brother up here.

The 70.3 is a half ironman and consists of:

1.9km swim

90 km cycle

21.1 km run

With 11 months to go before the next one, you got plenty of time to prepare.

So sit back for the next 6 months, relax, drink beer and give me a shout in October. Big%20smile

But in the meantime get your swimming technique sorted if there are any problems with it and get any injuries sorted properly by a physio.

And go join a running club and slowly start building distance

It all depends on how strong a swimmer you are!

Swimming is all technique. If you have bad technique you use a lot more energy and so you get into T1 more tired. The Swim coaching i had didn't make me any quicker. Just meant i swam at the same speed but using half as much energy.

However it's also worth noting that the swim is the shortist leg time wise. So improving your run or your cycle by 10% will effect your time more than improving your swim by 10%. But with cyclist/runnining people it tends to be that much easier to improve your swimming than your cycling.

JJJJiiisss, I watched this year's 70.3 on tv a while back......

Man, this is also one that I would loooove to do!!! I saw quite a few "average" looking people attempting this, so it makes me feel just sa little bit more confident! They weren't looking for a win, just a finish....

I'm sorta ok with the cycling, started the running thing already, and now just have to get Photo Fairy to actually teach me to swim properly!!!!

com_menc(t)tal let me know when you have a training plan, I also wanna do it!!!!Big%20smile

hahaha, if you have no pretenses of finishing in the top 50 don't worry unless you actually want to give up !!

I did both my comrades and my best 5km TT whilst I smoked!!
