At km 64, a small group tries to go across to Tony Martin who insists alone at the front with 25 seconds lead. Among the numerous riders who are trying to go clear off the peloton in the ascent to col de la Croix Haute: Vincenzo Nibali, Alejandro Valverde and defending champion Andrew Talansky...

The sprinters are dropping like flies, Yannick Martinez (Europcar) retires from the race.

 

Wish Bouhanni would too, that would mean EBH would get the jersey, right?

Tony Martin is forging on. His lead is 30 seconds over different counter-attackers than Nibali, Talansky and Valverde who have been reeeled in while Joaquim Rodriguez has made his way back to the peloton.

Composition of the yellow-blue jersey group, it's a small one: Talansky and DAN Martin (Cannondale), Froome (Sky), Kelderman (LottoNL-Jumbo), Bardet (AG2R), S. Yates (Orica), Herrada and Intxausti (Movistar), Van Garderen (BMC), Kiserlovski (Trek) and Serpa (Lampre).

At km 94, Tony Martin is again alone in the lead with 18 seconds over Nibali, Valverde, Rui Costa and Gallopin. The yellow-blue jersey group is at 1.25 but Talansky isn't part of it anymore as he had a mechanical.

Tony Martin has been rejoined by the quartet formed of Nibali, Valverde, Rui Costa and Gallopin. The yellow-blue jersey group has decided to slow down and wait for more chasers. It's now a peloton of approximately 50 riders, including Nacer Bouhanni, timed at 2.50 at km 102. :eek:

The five breakaway riders look extremely motivated. They aren't slowing down at all. It'll force the favorites to a strong chase! GAP TO THE PELOTON IS 2:50

So this was what Nibbles had in mind yesterday. Hard to dislike guys like him and Pistolero and even the Sherpa, trying different things and racing a bit more on instinct than stem :whistling:
