Gwin murdered his own family and killed many rabbis?

When I first googled Herod's account to see what you were on about, I though it said that he'd killed "many rabbits", and maybe that was the key to his skills: bunny hops slow you down...

I didn't really want to get too involved in a messy discussion, but felt I needed to respond to someone calling somebody else a douchebag just because he was acknowledging that he was a Christian.  The person then later he just doesn't like Gwin.  That's all fine.

I know the ref to Herod was obscure - two actually came to mind - one was Mirriam (David's wife when he was dancing 'naked' in the street, and Herod (Acts) when people called him a god, and because he did not acknowledge the real God he died.  All I was trying to say was that Gwin has a reason why he ackowledges God in that way - and I don't know the reason, but then nor does anyone here unless you know him quite well.

So it was a bit tongue in cheek - but why make such a hoo haa over a person who has just made an amazing run under very difficult circumstances.  My retort was that sometimes people hit the keys without thinking too much - and it can start threads that just mess tings up.

Another amazing run btw was Owen Wright's at Cloudbreak last night, another 20 in the finals.  As good as Gwin's run

Sorry, WHAT!? Never did I say that he is a douchebag because he acknowledged he is Christian. You clearly missed the point.

I say he's a douchebag partly due to HOW he attributes his successes to the one above, as if he is favoured above all others. It might be a mid-western American bravado type thing, it may be a supreme superiority complex. Whatever it is, it's hugely condescending of other racers who also have faith in a higher power.

Some of my best mates are highly religious. My sister is as well. My gran is an Austrian Jew who fled just before the poop hit the fan in Austria, and my grandfather is an English Protestant. Don't begin to think that I pronounce a person as a douchebag simply for what they believe in. It's the way they portray that belief, and in this case it is in my opinion the highest level of douchebaggery.

Fair enough. But, here's a tip. When you think someone hits the keys too quickly or without thinking about a subject, check yourself - breathe - before you reply to them.

As to Gwin, well, I was blown away when I first saw his riding in  the Clay Porter film that premiered in PMB in '09 (can't think of the name right now), but underwhelmed by his interview bits. Over the years since, I interviewed him a couple of times, and found him to be one of the most unapproachable MTB pros out there.

That kid can ride, but he certainly isn't likeable

Best dh run of all time... For me... Sam Hill at worlds ... Nothing comes close... Maybe there's a new thread in this...voulloiz run maybe?

I'm declaring my bias here... but I have to go with Greg's hometown champs win.

What about Danny's run in the rain? Aka the day that Warner blew a gasket

That too... Think we need a thread with links to videos... I'll do so when I get to my computer....

FIXED :-)

That speed, that control when it just went WILD. I don't think he's been the same since then. Things haven't really gone his way, and that haemotoma looked NASTY

He's been looking better the last couple of seasons... But I think he's a bit of a one trick pony

Always thought of him as a bit of a "lurker" type. You know, the guy who no one really knows, keeps to himself, then one day surprises everyone, and, just when you think you're about to get to know that other side of him, he withdraws again...

Oh, ja, the Clay Porter film I couldn't remember earlier was The Tipping Point (getting old...).

Agreed.

Mental note. Get more MTB films.

Cool! Porter's films are worth a peek.

Actually, and this is slightly off-topic, Greg's win at Fort Bill actually reminded me of Tipping Point a couple of weeks ago. In the film, he talks about a lean winning patch he'd been going through - he has a bit of a go at an interviewer for "basically saying I'm crap" - and then he surprises everyone by winning.
