Which Cascades are you refering to Nige? KZN?

Edit: Myles, you been to Cascades in Paarl yet? How do you think a AM bike will go on that? (LOOKS FLIPPEN STEEP!!)

EDIT version 2: Sorry Nige...my eyes are affected by my headache etc and I just didnt read the OP ...I was trying to see where he was from and then read the "pmb" part...thought with Myles quick reply he knew of him.

Hey Hay,

No - I haven't ridden there yet (bike was stolen the friday before the uplift day!!!) but I hear it's MEGA steep. It would be doable on an AM bike for sure, but would be better on a DH bike as a first timer or at least something with slack geo from what I hear. Having said that, I'm definitely going to do it on my Reign when it arrives!!!!

Thanks so much for the feedback! this might be broad but any specific bikes you can mention i have a look at?

On a side note i will probably build up a jump bike for that purpose later on, the place ive moved too has mega potential for an epic build spot!

Budget aside, this would be on my short-list, if I were in your position.

Transition Patrol. 160mm up front and 155mm at the rear. 650B.

well Jono Philogene raced his Specialized Enduro to 2nd overall yesterday in the DH ... so go chat to Craig Paul at Minnaars Cycles near cascades - he can hook you up with one of those...

But it depends on your budget - I have a Santa Cruz Nomad and can do the full DH on that thing ...

Otherwise there are Banshee Bikes and Transition in JHB ... ??

Or a Scott Genius from Leighs Cycle Centre in Durban?

I haven't set a budget as yet... I have know clue what these bikes go for so i really don't know where to set the bar. So for now research i guess.

If you looking to buy new. The options are endless. You can't go wrong with a tranny. But there are ALOT of nice bikes to choose from.

For pure affordability, you won't beat the Giant range. Reign and Trance are really budget beaters at 27 & 37k respectively for the base spec levels (which aren't really basic at all, actually) and both really capable

Silverback is also an option at the lower end of the travel and cost scale, and then there's the Specialized options of the Enduro or the Stumpjumper, both in 29 & 275.

From there, you get the more expensive options... of which there are LOADS.

My 2c's worth: recently moved from XC to Trail bike (130mm travel front and rear). Not regretted it so far.

EVERYTHING is more fun, even the climbs (maybe because I know that what lies ahead in the going-down-part is gonna be awesome!). I'm even posting better times for the XC stuff on it.

If I had bigger whatsitts I would have probably gone for even more travel for the gnarly stuff, but maybe one day when I have grown up....
