Chiro, Physio or Biokenetics ?

Hello fellow hubbers,

I was hoping someone can help me out....

I have had back surgery 15 years ago... i never really had MAJOR issue apart from the every now and again back pains (which i got use to)... so when i say pain i mean PAIN out of the norm.

In May 2012 i did a club ride and whilst doing a uphill sprint i heard a "pop sound"... then i sat down and finished my ride...only to have HUGE pains just before i got home. From there i have had numerous Chiro, Physio and biochenitics trying to get the pain to go away.

I have some good days where i dont have that much pain but this doesnt ever go away.... its like something didnt heal or we couldnt find the real issue...?

I had x-rays, MRI scans also done and every single person tells me its just MUSCLE and not nerve related in any way.... i dont get sciatics or anything just a very painful burn in the one side of my lower back. A few times i was unable to stand up in the last 3 years and i had spasms that burned like hell !!!

Heat makes it alot beter and deepheat helps alot! (which tells me it might be just muscle related)

I have come to a point where i want to have my life back as this prevents me from doing the things i love like cycling etc.

Is anyone here in the physio or chiro profession that know what i should try to resolve this? I have been told that a pulled muscle can go on for years if not treated right (i was wondering why this doesnt go away).

Any help would be appreciated!

I would love to help, but you are Pro Contador... so sorry ;)

Edit: I had pains in my lower back from an motorbike accident 10 years ago, combo of chiro and massage sorted it out.... I suggest you try the same.

there was a whole discussion here on this not too long ago..going to search...

edit: found it

I read through there but its people giving their input on what they "believe in"... im more looking for a Professional here that can help/assist me in having my pain taken care of.

I was hoping a physio or someone here would know/have the confidence to sort me out! In life you get ok doctors, good doctors then people thats "next level"... might be allot to ask for but im desperate to be helped !

nixm is a professional who commented on that thread...she is neither of those three professions but a response from a chiro would say "come see me" and physio the same and a biokinetikist...the exact same. Her input as a medical professional looking in from the outside is therefore very valid

I see you're in Paarl, I would highly recommend talking to Ronelle Rust at Body and Bike (physio) and Johan Prangley at Bellville Chiropractic.

I saw them when I had a serious shoulder issue - nerve related that turned out to be because of torn tendons (that 3 MRI's never picked up).  What I liked about them as opposed to the other "medical professionals" that I saw, they actually listened to what I had to say and did research to try out new treatments.  Also in seeing them together I was able to drastically cut down on pain medication and have some semblance at life.

Hi Disy, thanks for the info... i see they are both based in the northern suburbs right? Or do they work from a practice near Paarl also?

Only northern suburbs, they may be able to direct you to someone closer.

Sounds like nerve pain to me, but then again I only deal with bits of people.

The closest person I would refer you to is Dr Ina Diener in Stellenbosch. She has a PhD in physio and is very involved in teaching both the physio masters course and OMT course through Stellenbosch unversity. She is well published and comes highly recommended from my OH (a physio) who teaches with her.

May be worth driving to Stellenbosch and getting an initial opinion then a recommendation for a descent physio in Paarl.

I know chronic back pain and I know how it can ruin your life. But it can get better.
